Are all 3.0 5 speeds the same?

I'm shopping for a transmission for my '93 4x4 and have seen a couple ads mention the year of truck when listing the transmission.

I was under the impression that any 3.0 5 speed would work. Is this incorrect?

Thanks

I'm not aware of any major differences myself. I think there might be a small revision on the mounting of the stickshift handle for '98up vs. '93-'97, although I think you'll be fine if you also get the handle if you get a later one (something to the effect of the jam bolt being turned 90° off from the earlier design).

Any 3.0 5 speed will work as long as its from a 4x4.

Like junkie mentioned, the shifter slip bolt.

If you have 4x4 get a 4x4 tranny, 2wd, get a 2wd drive tranny.

I think there was a weird/rare 3.0 TK tranny in some 3.0 aerostar vans.

Thanks for the replies. I did discover in other threads that the 2wd/4wd differences are more than just the tail housing, so I'm looking for a 4x4 tranny.

If the only difference may be a shifter mod I can make something work.
