I currently have a 125 Gallon freshwater tank with;

3 Malawi Cichlids
1 Spotted Leaf fish (leopard bushfish)
3 Loachs
1 Synodontis Lace catfish
1 HUGE Plex (prolly 8-10 years old, tank DESTROYER)
1 Royal Plex just a baby
1 Blue Lobster

I will take some pictures of the whole tank and post them up later.

Here is my Question. I am ready for some different fish. I have almost always had Cichlids, Oscars, and others.
When I first set up this tank I had it with about 5 Gouramis, all they did was fight. They were pretty, but I just got sick of them. Everybody in my tank gets along great now, but I just want something different.

I want a true "community" tank.

Soooo, what is your favorite fish set ups, and why ? ? ? ?

Thanks, Todd S.

I'm partial to the 1,000,000,000,000+ gallon aquarium in my backyard.... see all sorts of critters in it all the time. Seen beaver, mink, muskrat, giant carp, a huge orange coy, lots of trout, a scattering of bass, tons of minnows, some crayfish, couple blue heron, mallard ducks, wood ducks (they are pretty cool birds - they can swim under water like a fish), and a couple kingfishers.

Yea, I have a creek 'bout 120' off the back of the house, lol. Haven't had an aquarium hooked up in years, every once in awhile I think about it though.

Here are my Pictures.

i had a cichlid tank set up for a few years, just a 55 gal. i loved it but i hated the upkeep. i plan on a 100+ gallon tank when my g/f and i get a place though. right now i just have a 10 gal but im really happy with the way its turned out so far. it's all cold water fish, a crawdad, fiddler crab, a green frog, african dwarf frog, and some hornwart. the pond frog sits on his little dock and eats crickets. when or if i do a true community tank, i was thinking assorted tetras. i want a big tank with lots of small fish, i think it adds more to the tank than just a few larger fish.

heres a pic of the cichlids, i dont have any good pics of my current tank.

Gaurami's are a weird thing, back when I had a community tank I had two pearls, they got along fine with everybody. I had a couple blues, pinks and they fought like rabid hyenas with anything else in the tank.

I really, really wanted to introduce them to my Jack Dempsey so they could see if they were really as tough as they thought the were...

I have a 20gal with my dempsey, a 20gal with yes one single giant danio until I find a place of my own again. I have a 55 in storage that I will set up as a community tank when I get a place to put it.

I liked my Gouramis, I just got sick of one of them always killing the rest.

Pound for pound, a pond Perch is the meanest thing I ever had in a aquarium. they ate EVERTHING in my tank, and I mean everything.....

My cousin has a largemouth bass that is supposed to be pretty mean... he is really pretty too.

I am kind of past the junkyard dog of a fish sitting in the corner waiting for you clean the tank so he can rip your arm off and beat you with it too.

i've always been afraid to commit to a saltwater setup. it seems like they can take sooo much cash to have something decent to look at. got any tips for a first saltwater aquarium?

I only started one after working at a pet store. My advice, start slow and don't be afraid to put the money in it. One fish/coral every month or so. You can never have enough rock. Rock holds bacteria and copepods that break down waste. Timers are your friend. And the bigger the better. If you start with a 10-20 gallon and make a small mistake, everything dies. Same mistake in a 75 gallon is much less fatal.

Finally, know what kind of tank you want. Aggressive fish only, or a reef tank. I would start with a fish only. Corals die easier than fish and are usually more expensive.

We had two when I was a little kid, it was a constant knockdown-drag out brawl until one died.

Damn....:bawling:

I might just buy a ton of guppies, or tetras or something.:annoyed:

I've got my 80 gallon stocked with

2 Gold Severums (mated pair)
3 Green Severums
3 Keyhole Cichlids
1 Marble Angel Fish
3 Flower Shrimp
3 Pepper Corys
1 Clown Pleco.

Everyone gets along just peachy and are very easy to look after. I had Discus, but the upkeep just got to be too much. The Severums are a nice fish with personality.
