What tells my AOD transmission to shift gears when I'm in drive? (Not AODE)

I have the neutral saftey switch plugged in, obviously. I can start it. But I am NOT happy with how it is shifting.

the valve body does all the shifting.BUT the TV cable needs to be right also or it will burn up with a quickness

ummmmm TV cable? like co-ax? Where grandmas programs come from?

Shwhat TV cable? the kickdown cable? I dont have that hooked up, and I drove approx 14 miles to get exhaust put on. Please dont tell me I burned up my re-clutched trans!

yeah probably so ,sad to say. you CANNOT drive without that hooked up and adjusted properly. your line pressure will never go up without it hooked up giving you some nice burnt clutches. better drain the pan and se if you have any clutches in the pan

Don't even drive it again until you hook it up. After its hooked up you can adjust the firmness of the shifts.

BAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

that is NOT cool, how do you know this?

Having re-clutched this transmission myself I know that I cannot have any big-fish clutch parts in the pan they are all in cluch packs. With the exception of the reverse and overdrive bands.

i know this cause i have rebult a lot of AODS. the cable is there for a reason,to give more line pressure as you apply more throttle. if it doesnt, you are driving around with very little pressure which doesnt hold clutches very good.and yes they are in packs but the linings(clutch material) will be in the pan if its burnt

kk, thanks.

As is apparent, I know very little about the intricacies of auto transmissions. Do you think I did serious damage driving into town and back? (Each a 10 minute drive)

a real good chance...expecially if you gave it half throttle or more

+1! Never, never run an AOD without the TV cable hooked up.
Also, overdrive is a band. Don't ever use overdrive unless you are just cruising down the expressway!

well,
epic fail on my part then. that is shitty

I drove at probably 1/4 or 1/3 throttle, but 2-3 times I gave it a bit more to see if that is what the transmission needed to be a bit more responsive. Bad plan I guess. :(

We'll see what drains out tommorow

I recently ventured into custom building an AOD for my T-bird. I disassembled 3 trannies. One had a fried clutch pack (TV cable disconnected) The other two only had one bad part each. The overdrive band.
I now have the low first and second gears, All the other hard parts, and all the clutches. All I need is a gasket and seal kit and the overdrive band. Then about 1000 hours of grinding and drilling and I'll have a REAL trans.
Then I'll just have to mortgage my house to get a converter. LOL.
