know where i can find a diagram of a 2.3L 5spd manual transmission diagram? preferably blown up diagram showing parts etc.

thanks.

maybe, what exactly do you need to see? model and year as well as particular parts (or whole thing) would be helpful to know.

well, its a 1994 2.3L 4wd, its got a knocking/clacking noise from the bell housing area in nuteral, im not fimilar with the ranger transmissions yet, but from my experence it sounds like a throwout bearing maybe...?

i looked at the Chilton manual but it doesn't have allot as far as dissecting the transmission goes it just gives an idea of the master cylinder/ slave cylindr etc and proscess involved as to how it works..... and removing the trans. from the engine nothing in depth..... im just trying to familiarize my self before disassembling it all...

The throwout bearing lives between the slave and the pressure plate and shouldn't make the noise you are describing. The most common noise from those is a rubbing sound under load that tends to go away under coast or neutral conditions. Knocking /clacking is probably either end play caused by bad bearings, or u-joint noise telegraphing along the driveline.

I've been through one of those transmissions before. They are really, really simple. The hardest part is getting the input shaft in and out. To get it out you have to get the front main bearing out, which is a pain with the shaft in place. To get it back in is just a tight fit getting it set onto the output shaft, then you can put its bearing back in.

The counter shaft bearing can be whacked out pretty easily once the main-shaft components are out of your way and then the counter shaft just lifts out.

I can PM the tear-down for that trans tomorrow (might have to get them from a later year, but it should all be the same stuff), but I would check your u-joints first.

About 1 1/2 years ago I thought I had a bad front bearing in my tranny, turned out to be slap in a u-joint telegraphing up along the drive line until I was hearing it come from the bell area.

Also, if you plan on taking gears off (shouldn't be necessary) remember that they need pressed off and that your synchro keepers are directional and have to go on the same way they came off. Also, make sure you do an endplay check when you are done. Too much play = noises again.

if you wouldent mind pm'ing me a tear down of it id appreciate it lol. i dont think its the u joints as its making the noise when sitting still and idling.... i do agree that it sounds like a bearing though, i am sure the problem will become apparent when i tear it apart. thanks for your advice though, i do need to do a good inspection of the truck as its been three or more years since ive looked at it lol.
