Dude, thats terrible. The 1st thought that comes to mind is why was that a bare pole but.....You know. You cant blame anyone for this tragic accident. Thats a damn shame man...

I've been hearing some bad things about that luge run...

Very sad to see, this should have been their big moment and the highpoint of their lives.

wow i hope he was knocked unconcsious and didn't wake up cause that would have been terribly agonizing pain to have to go through. Sucks that this would have been his chance at glory and this terrible accident happened. Also they had the shooting at alabama today with the last i heard 3 people dead...today is a baddd day.

the reason it (luge) is big as it is...is that risk. its not a simple sled ride...

yet its something i never wished to happen. many Olympic events events can end tragically.

i have great respect for the vast majority of athletes

Sad!

If you watch that video in slow-mo, that kid hit pretty much head first, he never knew what hit him.......I know they say he died later of his injuries, but they said the same of Dale Sr., figure that stationary pole and his body hits it at 90mph..........:sad:DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE!

Man - that was horrible. My 12 year old son is a seriously competetive gymnast - in the gym 35+ hours a week. NCAA rules for college limit them to 20. I've been at several meets when kids are doing release moves from the high bar and practically scalp themselves bashing their heads on the bar - but it's what they love to do. They don't put that much time in it if they dont. I feel terrible for the guy but at least he was doing what he wanted. I feel worse for his family.

I've heard of his death, but never got to see it. After watching that video, I can understand the pain of it.

They do it, because they love doing it. And they push them selves to the very limit. But it is sad to see that limit break and someone dies.

It was a tragic event but these courses have got considerably safer over the years. Back in the fifties there were quite a few ejections from the track at high speed, a few 4 man bobsled events come to mind. I hope there are no more trajedies during the events at this one. Olympics should be remembered for their excellence, and not for their tragedy.
