anyone else going through the wonders of college applications?

I've visited the school im applying to already, campus bar has 1$ (canadian) drafts beer

Luckily I live in a college town (Bloomington, Indiana) so I applied to IU and was accepted. In-state tuition is a little less than HALF of out of state tuition and since IU is a Big Ten school, me living here pretty much saved my ass.

I love the northwest! We have a program for Alaska, Washington, Oregon and some of the other states where you pay the in state tuition as long as you live in the northwest. So I can get in state in Oregon even though I have lived in Aly for the past 8 or 9 years.:headbang:

Why get drunk at a party?... seriously I don't get it, your feelin bad the day after, can't remember S**t that happened, possibly wreck your truck driving home (which has happened to a number of people on TRS). I like being the sober person, I know what happened I can stop bad stuff going down, drive fine and feel fine in the morning.

I dont drink and drive and I remember what happens, its about 50/50 on the hang overs depending on how many cigs ive had

So your friend got a business degree? Along with almost every other Dick and Jane entering the educational system. The problem is not entirely due to the economic situation. Your friend entered the job market that has been overflowing with applicants for the better part of 2 decades. My school had 100% employment for all of our graduates. All of our graduates last year are "afloat." Most of the trades, are still holding on, some are hurting, but they are not feeling it quite as bad as non-trade jobs. Fact is that America is pretty fat and lazy and it seems that a good job these days requires $100K+ and a corner office.

Yeah, I agree Business and Psychology degrees are two of the hardest fields to get into because 1.) Everyone and their brother AND sister has a Business degree, and 2.) Psychology is really interesting, but everyone doesn't need a Psychologist. 100% of people in America will need to see a MD at some point in their life, but a Psychologist? Not nearly enough to provide jobs to all the graduates out there...

To the OP, welcome to the world of college... You will fill out more forms than you can believe... It seems like Universities are given an unlimited supply of paper and told they have to get rid of it... Just wait until you start doing undergrad research, they throw even more forms at you... I'll give you a good tip... Get a giant filing cabinet and make copies of all the forms you get... They seem to lose them a lot, lol...

He is absolutely correct. This is a time when you being organized and keeping track of what you do will save you in the long run. When you amil something out, make a copy, and record on the copy the date it was sent, if you fax it include the time as well. You can get a simple 2 droor filing cabinet for like 25-30 bucks.

Yeah, too bad I learned that after a full year of lost papers, and late financial aid checks, lol...

I made it a year and a half, and I still throw everything out! But I have one, its sitting 6 inches from me. However I have most of the receipts for truck stuff very well organized in two folders.

Yeah, all my vehicle papers I have... I just gotta get in the mindset of keeping school stuff too, haha! Truck stuff is WAY more important than school stuff though!! JK...

The WUE? When I went to Portland last quarter, I got that and it's ok. You pay 150% of the out of state tuition, and time spent in that program can't be used to build residency in that state. It only applies to certain degrees too, so keep that in mind.

I'm all for going to a community college beforehand, hell it's like 1/4 of the cost. If you live in a college town while doing so, you'll hardly notice a difference except the money you save.

Yeah, I wasn't sure about it but its a Hell of alot better than paying full priced out of state. I can live with the 50%. Thast also why I'm trying to get rid of the general education stuff before I go.

Most state colleges have an Omnibus application that you fill out once and it is submitted to all the state colleges at once.

Texas is hiring, Temp today was 77

i don't really have much to add, but this some of you may not know this.

i go to college part time and work full time. Why? I work for the college as a full-time, salary employee with benefits. what kind of benefits? well, the pay sure isn't :icon_rofl: but the 75% off tuition sure is. plus a stable job (no layoffs in a state run organization like this). i make monthly payments for the rest, paying off each semester as i go. yeah, its taking me awhile, but i will come out of college with $0,000.00 in debt.

btw, i went into college with a full-ride scholarship, then lost it. hence the change from full time student/part time work to the opposite.

if you work for a state school your tuition for any state college/university is free for you and your immediate family

I get paid to go to school... I'm expecting a check for about $4k to show up at my house anytime now... I'd have to say though, it's probably tougher than a full time job... I take 18+ hours each semester, plus my undergrad research for both the Biology, and Geology departments, and I "work" in both departments (answering phones, copying junk, etc.) I've actually got homework to be working on right now... I'm procrastinating though...
