I am considering useing por-15 under my doors where rust is taking over. I thought about sand blasting then useing por-15. has anybody used this product and how long they used this product, this way and does it really work as described

I use POR-15 pretty much on a daily basis at my day Job as well as at my shop. Its great stuff as long as the prep work is done right... Now the correct way to prep depends on how bad the rust already is. If its light surface rust wire brush the loose rust and paint away, the rest of the paint (within an inch from the rust) scuff it up with some 80g, POR-15 tends to only stick to rough surfaces. Also its not completely needed but using the metal ready does help it last longer. Clean the inside of the door and apply the POR inside as well to help seal it up, then use multiple light coats under the exterior letting it tack up between coats (times varys alot depending on temp and humidity). Apply about 3 coats just to the rusted area as much as possible but scuffing the paint with 80 helps it bite in. after the final coats sets up to dry/tack state (barely leaves a finger print) put a primer on it. Scuff the primer and do ur filler work over the primer (normally not the right way but with POR it works better, trust me) Also, use latex gloves and keep some solvent near u while painting... POR on anything u don't want is bad including skin, well especially skin lol. Any more questions feel free to ask.

just a few more on my pass side there is significant rust no holes yet but soon; I was thinking of sandblasting both sides of door and only use por on the inside and paint the outside now could I paint por on the outside of door skin to match the color of the truck? and is this going to slow down the rust or prevent it from comming back ? how long ago did you apply this stuff and did rust happen to come back to that area?

The first time I used POR-15 was on my pro-street in 98, still holding up great. Now for using it on the outside of a panel, if u use it as an undercoat below the primer it will be fine and if u prep right, sand blasting is the best as u stated u were going to do. Standard POR-15 is not UV friendly and must be top coated with something else weather u use another of their products that r safe or finsh the panel with a urethane paint. If u blast the rust out completely U can use POR on the inside of the panel and a good etch primer or epoxy primer on the outside before u apply putty. And when I'm refering to the inside of the panel i mean taking the interior panel off and slopping the POR down in the bottom of the door, thats actually where the doors begin to rot.

i use the stuff at work all the time and we use it on armorred cars and stuff and it works great we just brush off the loose stuff and brush it on .POR= Paint Over Rust . but im sure a bit of prep wont hurt:yahoo::D
