anybody know what engines drop nicely into my 94 ranger 4.0, and possibly any that bolt up to the tranny

5.0 will drop right in, look in the tech library for info

The only drop in is a 4.0 of similar year and you still might have to change some sensors.

The only other engines that bolt to the trans are the 2.8 and 2.9... have fun with them. You might say they are a step backwards.

Just about anything else will go in with varying amounts of difficulty.

a 5.0 will not drop in u need to change motor mounts and have to have some body lift unless u expect to modify alot i heard a 94 ex is one of the best and it all depends on what trans u have

Hence why I said to look in the tech library

It doesn't matter a lick what trans he has, if it is factory a 5.0 will not bolt to it.

Not a ton more work to put a 5.0 in bodylift vs bodylift... bodylifts make it ALOT easier. But for that matter they make everything easier... even stock powertrains are far easier to work on.

I could've sworn that the article I read stated that a 5.0 will bolt up to a m50d. And all that he would have to buy are the mustang gt convertible engine mounts. Granted a few other tidbits have to be changed as well but its not a difficult swap or that complicated. Also from the articles in the library a body lift wasn't needed, just made a 5.0 easier to work on.

5.0 bellhousing is different than any engine offered in the Ranger. The m5od-r1 has an integral bellhousing. Maybe if an adapter was used(?)... But it's a crappy trans to put behind a mild 302. m5od-r2 works though as it has a small block bell and was offered behind such.

Yes, there are variations of the M5OD. The M5OD-R1 used behind 2.3/2.9/3.0/4.0OHV motors. M5OD-R1HD behind 4.0SOHC motors. M5OD-R2 used behind 4.2/4.9/5.0 engines in the F150.

85-ranger i was meaning what trans he had if it would work with a 4.0 i know none will work with a 5.0 one wrong bellhousing 2 the trans is just not strong enough

Sorry, no engine in existence, not even another 4.0 will just drop in and bolt up. Your truck is a 100% one-off unit.
