ok so teh last time i had a laptop, i had this same problem, i just got a new laptop, ive got clearwire phone and internet, and then ive got this junker called netgear, wireless, that i have to hookup to it for wireless in my house to my laptop, and ive used everyfreaken wire combo i can think of and its still wont work, i can get the internet on my desktop to work but then the phone isnt working, and the wireless still isnt working. and when i leave the connection normal without the netgear thing, and hook the wires up to the laptop, i dont get internet, but when i plug it into my desktop i gt internet, wtf is going on, i would call the help line, but the telephone sucks

does ne one knw how to hook this up im a computer genious and i cant figure it out.

So is your phone and internet all in one modem?

I can't figure out how you lose your phone when the internet works?

Did you run the network setup wizard on your new computer.

Do you have a static IP address?

I would check to make sure the settings on the laptop match the settings on the desktop.

Go to your desktop, click Start>Run, Type in CMD press enter. In the black box, type in IPCONFIG/ALL

Check all the setting and make note of them. Do the same thing on the laptop and see if they are close if not matching.

Post back the results.

do you have a cable phone, like vonage or similar?? if so, netgear can and does run on the same frequency as like a cordless phone, there fore messing with the phone.. might be way off base with this, but it is a problem i have run into personally.

ive got clearwire phone and internet, theres a clearwire modem, which recieves a signal via satellite then a ethernet cord goes to the clearwire phone modem, and hooks into the spot called internet, then one goes out from a slot called internet to the computer and then theres another one off of the clearwire phone modem to the wireless phone, ive had it hooked up bfor on my last laptop, and somewhere after the phone modem, this netgear is supposed to plug in, and yes i have run the network setup wizard, but this computer has the easy network setup, and im not sure about the static ip address, and ill try what u said jspafford, i didnt think of comparing them.. ill post my results

i just did them, and they were a little diff, sence the laptop has the crappy windown vista, and the desktop has xp, but for the most part it was all te, same they were alls et to auto detect, and on

i jsut found the wizard, in internet properties, it says the wizard cannot continue, what a piece of crap

i just found out that if i plug the ethernet cord directly into the laptop, and check the internet settings, where it shows u the connections, the LAN, was connected, and it said it was recieving a signal or something like that, but it still wouldnt bring up ne web page, idk what to do with it, i mainly want the internet, bcuz its got san andreas on it, and u cant transfer gmae mods, via usb, for some reason or not that ive found, and my desktop is to old to play the game, it wont hold a graphice card thats fast enough

clone the desktop MAC address to the router, your internet only alows 1 computer, but cloning the MAC to the router will all all of them to work on the net

Leave it so your desktop can get online. Go to Start, Run and type in
ipconfig /release
Then cable everything up and see if it works. This is what i have to do to my outside link when changing what is directly connected to it.
