Anybody get SCREWED with their auto insurance rates lately?

Im getting ready to change my company just because of the house coverage increase, auto has went up but not as bad as the house, going to see about lowering some of the coverage amounts on the house as well. I dont recall specifics, my company is american family. 3 cars, liability on the escapes & full coverage on the equinox (due to newness & outstanding loan)

EVERY statement from State Farm goes up even just a few dollars. I get pissed off, because even though I don't live in a hurricane area, whenever there's damage my bills show an increase. Do the billing/up charges by area. NOT nationwide !!!!!!

Corporations are getting greedier all the time and they're going to increase their profits every single way they can think of.

As others have said, nobody cares about loyalty anymore and they will show you none, so every time one of my bills increases, I shop around for other companies. Is it a royal pain and a time suck? Yes. But I do it just on principle. Sometimes I'll switch companies even if I can't get a better deal just to deprive company A of the money they would have made off me if they had just left well enough alone. With corps running everything now, we all need to vote with our wallets.

I have Progressive for auto and have been with them for like 15 years and have not been too upset with them. I've had a couple minor incidents and my rates haven't gone up significantly because of it... State farm for home since they were cheapest somehow, it's tied into my loan and don't know if I can monkey with it much, haven't paid attention to the statements much since the loan company hasn't monkeyed with the escrow amount much...

If any of you have more vehicles than you have drivers, see if you could put the older vehicles on a collector policy.

I’ve got a 96 F250 I bought brand new, pristine. I’ve got Libert Mutual and it cost me $300 a month for 10 months. This year I think I’m going to increase the deductible.

The 87 and 97 Rangers are on a Haggerty collector policy. If I recall right, it’s about $800 a year for full coverage, agreed, price, liability, etc. etc., zero deductible.

The 78 Lincoln Marc V, the 87 and 88 town cars are on a Grundy policy. That’s about $900 a year for agreed, value, full coverage, good liability, etc..

Since I have extra vehicles, I drop the towing coverage, and maybe a couple other little things.

If you can get on the collector policy, it’s absolutely the way to go. Theoretically, they have restrictions, but they never enforce them. And you can always say that you were going to get a part for your car if something happens.

I think I've said this in another thread a while back but Hagerty is great if you have anything that they'll cover. I don't know exactly where they draw the line about "collectible" but I have a couple cars with them and their rates are so good it's suspicious. ($300 a year for 2 vehicles - bearing in mind I'm old and no tickets or accidents) My Ranger is 500 canuck bucks a year with Allstate, who I'm amazed gave me the lowest rates in these parts.

EDIT: stay young as long as you can fellas, but getting old has a precious few advantages... amongst them wisdom, and lower insurance rates, assuming you can keep your foot off the loud pedal. ;)

I used to be with progressive, up until 8 years ago.. my agent then found that Hanover was going to be cheaper so I switched.

I can't believe that the thing I'm most looking forward to this week is a trip to the damn insurance agency 😑 yaaaaaaaay lol.

I'll definitely inquire about some collectors insurance for the ranger though. If it's really that cheap.. hell yeah.

Huh? I’m old, tell me more about this wisdom stuff….

After thought, but one of the collector policy restrictions as you can’t work out of it, commercially. Depending on what you do, that might be hard to cover if you’re in an accident.

As regards progressive and Geico, sometimes they seem to have great rates, but wait until you have an accident, you’re screwed. I never had them myself, but I have fought them 100 times when one of their drivers hit one of our trucks

On that note I've dealt with Progressive on Progressive and it was simple enough, when I got rear ended and the tailgate on the '97 was the only casualty the process to get $$ out of the deal wasn't horrible and I ended up ahead when I found the right color in the junkyard.... when I rear ended someone a couple years ago it didn't change my price either... being the 3rd in line at an unexpected stop is the worst place...

For what it's worth my wife and my friends wife worked at a body shop in the book keeping department for a while and the military rewards companies (AmFam, Geico etc) and State Farm were the worst to deal with, Progressive was one of the less bad ones to deal with apparently...

They get nitpicky about a lot of things from what I hear, can't drive it to work, can only do so many miles etc.

I think that stuff is in the rules, but I’ve never heard a word about it from Grundy (15 20 years?), and Hagarty (4 years) actually pressed me that they don’t check the mileage and such.

Someone else said it though, I’m an old fart, no accident or ticket in 20+ years, etc.

On that last item, you may want to have a fraternal order of Police or sheriff’s association membership card in your pocket. Very, very cheap insurance, and it’s for a good cause.

Definitely won't be any sort of work vehicle.. and very very minimal miles a year.

The only disqualifier for my truck that I could think of is if they wanna see pictures of it or go do an appraisal or something lol... It don't run and is sitting in pieces all over my uncle's yard 😖 haha

I don’t think that’s a big issue either. I don’t know if you’ve noticed that I modified my 97 and my 87 a little bit. They haven’t said a word.

Part of me wonders if they like the modified ones because they know people will take better care of them, but who knows how insurance people think!

..but who knows how insurance people think!

I have somewhat of an idea..

It's "how can I screw my policy holders as much as I can whilst giving my investors as big of a return as possible"

Speaking of which... UNH shares are still down a MASSIVE percent after the whole Luigi incident.. buy now! Lol.

Stopped by the insurance office after work, they're going to get me some quotes and get back to me tomorrow or Wednesday.. fingers crossed they can find me a much better rate 🤞🏻 also asked about collectors insurance for the ranger...lady said she thinks it might be too new (it's 30 damn years old!) but she'll look anyways.
