Anybody feel scammed by RockAuto?

I have certainly purchased a lot less from Rock Auto in the last year or two because of this exact issue. I hope someone from there is reading this thread - very irritating.

Another issue I have had is when ordering several of an item (I'll use a '94 Explorer fuel filter as an example) I'll add one or two to my cart, check shipping, add a few more, shipping doubles, add a few more, shipping doubles again. One order that I created but did not place included two F250 rear brake rotors (shipping was around $8 for both of those) and five fuel filters (shipping on those was almost $20!!!)

Their shipping calculation algorithm just does not make sense sometimes. If you can ship me two 40 pound brake rotors in two separate boxes for $8, it sure as hell does not cost $20 to ship a box the size of one rotor that weighs maybe 3 pounds. It feels like they're making up for low prices on items by gouging on the shipping.

I will say that I later bought those rotors separately for $17 each plus the cheap shipping... they are over $100 each at any of the parts stores... so in the end it's not such a big deal, even if their shipping isn't perfect, I still save a ton of money.

I did use Rock Auto very often but their shipping system is weird and always has been. Now, like others have said, I can find most of the same brand items on Amazon or Ebay at the same of better pricing. I still do use their catalog as a reference all the time but may only order stuff every couple months.

I use Fordpart.com for my Ford parts and they ship to a dealer on my commute route and I pick it up without shipping charges. IDing parts can be a challenge sometimes.

Im also collecting them on my fridge haha

I haven't had an issue with RockAuto, but i always compare total prices with amazon, and other auto sites. Sometimes you get a good deal, sometimes you don't. RockAuto in general though does have fast shipping times. I usually receive stuff in 1-3 days.

I'm too lazy to deal with their insane website...

And don't get me started on their commercials...

My biggest problem with cockauto is the lack of complete parts listings.

Example
My 00 impreza 2.5 rs
I replaced all the struts etc even put Eibach springs on, no listings for the upper rear spring retainers ( they rot out) and vise versa for the front, also the isolators not listed. Atleast list it with not available.... I know... I know.... I should have looked first but thats no excuse on their part. They should fulfill my unrealistic expectations and list every part for every car. Even if they dont have it. The shipping drives me nuts but even with the shipping costs a starter or alternator is still cheaper than advanced auto. Plus they do have parts auto zone and advanced auto dont carry.

You think Rock Auto is clunky, try finding parts on a Honda Parts web site. They chuck parts listings under things that make no sense.
Ford is doing that too. if you don't know their special name for something it's hard to find.
:icon_rofl: Neither of you have ever used Mack fleet impact to search for parts!!! Fords parts are easy in comparison.

Just had this problem and thought it was just utterly stupid. I had to order upper and lower ball joints for both sides. Same manufacturer, same line of product, but the lower ball joints were at a different warehouse than the upper.

You good sir, must have never ordered anything internally from John Deere.

I no longer subjected myself to that nonsense after a month of pure hell. Just send me the goddamn PARTS!!!!

Me "No the part was defective not misused."

Rep "How do you know?"

Me "Because I installed the F#@cking thing at 3am in sub freezing temps and it still doesn't work"

Rep " I dont understand"

Me " No shit" Click....

Me "Tells boss your turn"

Boss "No, I don't think so"

Me "consider this my two weeks"

Boss " Your funny"

Two weeks later phone rings

Boss "Hey im gonna have to give you a write up for a no call no show"

Me "who dis? Wrong number!!!" Click....

I hate farm equipment now.

Illustrated parts break downs aren't so bad. FEDLOG on the other hand...

I have noticed over the last year and a half they have made change to the way they display where parts are coming from. It used to be that after your first part was in the cart all other parts had a truck next to it displaying the wherehouse it would come from so while selecting parts you could try and get them from the same place. Not anymore though, now we are placing a part in the cart just to go to the cart to see where it is coming from. This is a pain and very inconvenient for customers.

This came from a site update that did one of two things. 1. They broke it. Or 2. This was intentional and are pissing money away from customers going other places.

I've used RockAuto for years now and hate the new system. As you can see from the pic I have put in many orders over the years and for sure the shopping experiance has degraded over the past year or two.

Y'all don't use the 5% discount? lol
I've been using them for the last uear or so for my Nissan. It's an 88 and parts are scarce. RockAuto usually has it and can get it faster. I had to return a misordred item on my part, it was a process to make the return, and shipping is taken out after they gave me store credit. Fine with me. I too have a few magnates on my toolbox.
