My last boat trailer had fully rusted axle and leaf springs which for the fun of it I tremcladed black with the rest of the trailer. I found by the time I sold it almost 2 years later that it still looked exellent to my surprise.
I now upgraded to a bigger boat trailer and plan on doing the same. Trailer itself is beige and shows all the rust. I have found that with black tremcload even if the rust does start to come back 4+ years later it will still look a hell of alot better then with original beige paint with rust.:icon_thumby:

I guess rule of them with tremclade the darker the color the better and longer it lasts.

BBF (now that is funny) (the acronym NOT the Blue....)

Tremclad is hands down, for paint, the BEST paint in the world, PERIOD !!!!!!

The only other thing I would have done (if keeping it for a while) is paint on some "RUST MORT" and let it dry BEFORE the tremclad...

Does anyone know how hard it would be to remove the tremclad if you decided to clean a part up for welding or to put normal paint on it? I have never used it and wonder if it would be like removing paint, or more like undercoat or something.

If you need to clean up areas for welding rusted/painted/tremclad, a wire cup on a 5" grinder makes it all good.

I painted my frame with Tremclad...used the rattle cans only...and it still looks good...but the only thing you can see is the inside of the frame rails...that I painted yellow for easier visuals...(this works really well btw)...and that was about 8 years ago...

And I agree...just use a grinder and it will take off everything...

I might add that I did not spray right over the rust...I had mine sand blasted first...then prime painted...so it was smooth as a baby's bum when I actually got to paint it...not that I've touched any baby bums lately...lol

Usually, the darker the color the more it absorbs the sun's rays-

I never thought of that but still better to go dark if you must paint over the rust.

Actually the truth is I don't even use tremclad, I use Armor Coat:icon_thumby: From Canadian Tire. It's an exact replica of Tremclad, I get a gallon of this stuff for about $20. Heck of a good deal to get such great long lasting paint for next to nothing.
