My 84 has the slowest friggin wipers... I was wondering is you guys had any mods for early models to get more wiper options..

Man thats a good question. I owned an 86 F150 and its wipers were slow as hell too. I thinks all the fords in the early 80's have slow wipers. We need a serious mod here. We need a ford wiper motor with armature rewound with thicker gauge wire. More amps bigger fuse faster speed. I wonder if the local starter repair place could do this. I dont know if it would damage the switch though. Witch could definilty be the problem (switch flakin out). If I remeber right though they just aint that fast.

I may be grasping for straws here but... I'd be checking the wiper motor from a newer ranger to see if it would run any faster and could be retrofitted to work in your application/space (it would be a shot in the dark but worth a try)

My wipers only move slow when the windshield is dry...it's an 88...if the battery is low it might cause them to drag a bit too...as far as mods...not sure...like Grey_04 said try to find if one from a later model fits...

Other than that...check the wiring you have for cracks or breaks in the coating...it may be arching out or the wire could be frazzled inside (if you look at that old wiring it crumbles)...my main power wire had ONE strand holding it together and when I cut that connection out and spliced in a new piece I had plenty of juice for the system...everything worked much better...

Check the connections on the driver side inner fender...common issue for the connectors to rot and otherwise not connect properly...even my headlight connectors were wonky...causing the headlights to either not come on or to flicker...

I do think it is the motor... the way it came from the factory...
When I get behind a 18 wheeler on the highway it gets exciting...
And some times having a delay or intermittent wiper would be good.

My wipers aren't the fastest either lol. I almost cross my fingers every time when I want them to come on LoL

Fix em! Idk I use rain-x and never have to turn on my wipers. I think I've used them only in really heavy rains.

I wonder what year they changed the wiper motor and switches... emiton wipers and faster wipers would be a good safe mod.

My '85 has pretty quick wipers.

My only complaint is they don't lock ahead for when I clean the windshield.

Not sure if mine are original or if I swiped them off a later model...but mine lock out when I want to clean the windshield...pretty sure the originals didn't...but they are easy to swap...I've even had to lock one out when the wiper broke on the road once...driving with one wiper up is exciting...

I checked into swapping the arms, it appeared that the what they mount to is different (according to the LMC catalog anyway)

Not sure about what year I pulled mine off of...but the originals were a pita to clean under (although I rarely lift the wipers to clean that space because it doesn't affect vision) and I made a special trip to the junkyard to find some that flipped back...

I know now that finding a replacement set is not likely if I needed them...but haven't actually checked any vehicles lately...maybe look at the F-150s...many parts are interchangeable...just a matter of measuring the fitting...

It would be nice in the winter because they catch ice and snow under there that gets under the blade and holds it off the windshield, and then dirt collects on top the blade in the summer so the first few swipes in rain it is smearing mud all over the windshield.
