I have been talking to gwaii over the last little bit about finding a way to save our threads onto a disc for later reading. I tried using firefox's "save page" but it broke the thread up into separate files. Any way to do this on moderator level or is there some sort of plug-in or add-on for firefox or vbulletin that could be used?

Cheers,

-Mike

are you looking to save tech in them? b/c that stuff should end up in the tech library, or just generally save a thread?

i think there's a firefox plugin that'll do that

to save the whole thread,as it appears on the forum.it is a great way to document a build, with dates and times intact.

one potential problem i was thinking of,though,is that the pics would probably just show up as the photobucket links.

that could work.

uhhh,.....how do you do that?

Yeah, just like that. With the pictures.

The "Print screen" button on your keyboard. The issue is it take a pic of only your screen requiring editing and stitching to put it all back together. Figure on about 5-6 screen caps per page. More with more pictures. That's why I was trying to avoid that method.

At the top of the page, click on:

THREAD TOOLS ----> SHOW PRINTABLE VERSION

This opens up a new window. Then, right click, "Save As..."

This file is able to open up even without an Internet connection.

You can save these multiple files to disc.

EDIT: I will note, however, that images are not shown (only their link paths). I guess you could Copy/Paste each image into a Microsoft Word Document. Each thread will just have 2 files (the thread itself and conversations, and another document with pics).

Hope this helps.

How about printing to a pdf using a free pdf writer? Then it would show up exactly as you have it on your screen.

i think making a pdf version would be the best way to do it

ok,here i go again.....

Good point. Do you just need Adobe to set up those preferences for a CutePDF printer?

Just copy and paste into notepad or microsoft word. Pics will prolly show up as IMG links, but you can copy and paste links seperately into MS word as an actual link so that when you open the document online the links are active in the word document.

I haven't done it specifically with TRS but I've printed other webpages with CutePDF. It turns out pretty good. I would probably set my number of messages per page (on TRS) to 40 so that long threads would require less printing.

I think I'm attaching an example file. Or at least I hope I am. You could probably play with some print settings to make it look how you want it. And, the words are searchable.

EDIT: Yay! The attachment showed up!

Saving via CutePDF also shows the pictures at screen resolution, and are copiable from the pdf.

You can download it for free here: http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp
