I have a set of super duty axles, from my wrecked super duty. I have the dana 60 in front, and the rear axle as well. Thinking about building another ranger up would these be of good use? I've been out of the ranger game for quite some time since I got rid of mine, been more into the diesel world. It's crazy how much I forgot about these little guys.

That's what I'm using . i got a Dana 60 and a sterling 10.5 that I'm putting in my ranger
With 5.38 gears lockers in both and 42" iroks

Good axles they don't break

^ They DO break. Double check to see if you have the D50 housing. Some Superduty's came with the D50. Dana 50 axles were in Super Dutys from 1999 to mid 2001. The D50 axles will have necked down shafts ( splines will be 1.3" 30 spline)

As for SD D60s, they're ball joint axles with unit bearings. Ball joints are not as sought after as the KP D60s because they ARE slightly weaker and much more of a PITA to mount steering arms on (There's only one vendor I know of that is machining SD knuckles for arms). As far as the unit bearings are concerned, they are ridiculously expensive ($400+). Then you get to the fact that they have a metric bolt pattern (not that big of a deal and you CAN redrill them to the more popular 8x6.5)

The bearings are no longer that high in price. You can get a decent set for about $175 apiece. And I'd beg to differ on the bolt pattern. I've found that the 8x170 pattern is easier to find. There are well over a million 99+ superdutys on the road using that pattern. OBS trucks are becoming fewer and fewer as they gain miles and fall apart from rust.

I'd say sell the axle to someone looking to do the sas swap on an obs f250.

Those are the axles I'm trying to find.

Yeah, they have issues, but well worth it in strength.
Said "weak" hub assemblies... It won't have a powerstroke on top of it.
Rear caliper pins... Grease!
Metric bolt pattern... These wheels are common these days.

High steer is the only real issue, $$$
I'm going full hydro so I'll make it work.

I can get the entire front axle, hub to hub, around here for less than $120, 4.10 gears, bakes trac bar, etc... Maybe you should consider a road trip there, Urban.

anybody building a ranger that would not consider a dana 50 is a fawking idiot.

Seriously? A complete D60 under $150.
They're all going for $900-$2000 here.

I did find an F-450 Super60 on Craigslist, he wanted something like $1500 for the pair.

i see them all the time too.

never when i am prepared to pull them though.

generally they never make it out of the prep yard.

but when they do, i have been cheated many times pulling them into closing time....then waiting the next day to get in....poof...somehow the 650 pound axle i freed or nearly freed floated away.

piss a motherfawker off to no end.:annoyed::annoyed:

They're stronger than stock Ranger axles....
