i choose to live where i don't have to "bug out". 170 acres at the end of a dead end road, 8 miles outside of the nearest town of less then 10k people. and, of course, i already have pretty much all i'll ever need right here with me.

We have an underground shelter (concrete bunker) hidden in the woods and nobody will ever find us. I can take one vehical there and drive it underground and it will be hidden. But if it ever happens...the end of the world..... there will be no one around anyways!!!

I used to keep stacks of adult magazines around. Figured the internet goes down and theres no power they'd be better than gold for trading. But I got tired of moving them so I threw them out. I guess I'm SOL.

It is a lot of digging and then you got to mix a ton of concrete!!! But this place was built back in the mid 60's by the military due to the atomic / nuclear bomb scares. It only supports about 10 people (small pets are ok). My dad bought the property up there and then he gave it to me about 12 years ago. It is beautiful up there. It is up in Mississippi. I have 70 acres on the Tombigbee Water Way, near Nazareth Trace.

Seriously dude, where on earth do you come up with all this crazy stuff? Youtube is not a true news outlet - anyone can stage anything and post it on there. I went through a TON of courses for Journalism and it was drilled into us to be VERY careful choosing sources for information off the Internet because ANYONE can post ANYTHING they want on there. A little research on any subject will turn up everything from doom-sayers saying it is the worst thing in the world and we are all going to die tomorrow at noon - and also some rosy-world viewpoint that it is the best thing to ever happen and we will all live happily ever after. It is not enough to go to like CNN.com and quote something from there without checking it, because even big news organizations have gotten stories wrong from time to time (and it has gotten worse in recent years).

And not to start a political war, but this "default" will not be the end of the country. Despite Obama's preachings that if we default we will have no money to pay anything, the money is there to pay our service men/women, to pay social security, and all the other "necessary" things - it comes in the form of your TAX money. The real issue on the table with the negotiations is our country's debt - in other words our government has made a habit of spending more than it is making. It is the same as if you would make a $400 paycheck every week and every week you spend $700 - at some point your accumulated debt is going to reach a critical mass and you are going to have debt collectors hounding you. The easy solution is to cut spending or find a way to make more money - sometimes you have to do both. But the government's income is generated primarily by taxes, and if the taxes are raised further, people lose jobs and tax revenue goes down (since we are already in a depression). So the viable solution is to cut spending (oh the horror).

The problem is that our Congress cannot seem to agree on how to go about it. The Democrats are mainly pushing to raise the debt ceiling (that point where debt reaches a critical mass), and at some point in the future they will cut spending (which they have promised several times in the past - let us raise taxes and/or the debt ceiling and we PROMISE we will give you cuts in the future - but it never happens. They pulled that trick on Regan and Bush Sr. to name a few). The Republicans want to cut spending (and to a point cut taxes) and raise the debt ceiling only a little. Since neither side will agree, the debate has been going nowhere. The House passes something agreeable and the Senate votes it down. As far as taxes go, raising taxes only generates higher income for the Government to a point, after that point it goes down. Reducing taxes gives the working man more money in his pocket and he'll go out and spend it, generating more tax income for the Government. Simple Economics.
