I love my 05 f150 with a 4.6 have 30k on it and get about 18-23 mpg. the 5.4 and 6.8 had the plug problem.

Check the rear spark plugs

u can get new ones in work truck trim right now for dirt cheap!! but id like to know a lil bout the 4.6 micro v8.

mainly reliability and major flaws
Check the rear spark plugs.
My brother could not reach most of the plugs in his extended cab F150.
The mechanic said one came out with the aluminum head treads :bawling:
Had to put a heli coil in.

That is mostly for the tec trying to remove them with air or the wrong tools.

Early f150s with the 4.6L had a flaw with the motor, basically the valve guides go out, most of the oil in those engines are held in the head area, when the guides go out, all the oil is pulled into the pistons burned off, and kills the motor flat dead. I have a 97 with that problem sitting at my shop right now. there is an upgrade for them, and later models come from the factory that way.

whats the upgrade? I am about to buy one of these and it uses 3 quarts between oil changes.

Are you sure its just the F150 motors?

I see a TON of crown vics, Grand Marquis, and town cars burning oil like a 4 cylinder chrysler.

later,
Dustin
