Are there any negative side effects if you dump your exhaust directly (ie:no tail pipe)

Exhaust gases are corrosive so it will "eat" the underside of your truck over time.

i dumped my exhaust but at the same time i rhino sprayed the under side of my bed and frame and its been like that for two years and its been fine

can't say my exhaust caused my bed to rot out any more than the road salt did. I dumped my exhaust the same time I put new shocks on. Drove it for a year and a half and the shocks don't have a spot of rust on them, the passenger shock is right there at the end of the muffler!

the shocks are also painted, whereas the frame and crossmembers are bare steel.

dumping also increases the risk of trapping a "bubble" of CO2 under the body of the truck and allowing it to seep into the cab....nobody likes to be dead.

why not just buy a $3 90-degree bend and make it stick out before the rear tire?

I've got a 99 dakota and my exhaust dumps off right before the rear axle. Its a flow master with a 90deg welded right to the muffler. Its about 5yrs old no problems not rot not rust. During the winter when its friggen cold the exhaust steam will freeze to the rear axle.

the frame and crossmember are not bare steel, unless it was already rusted to begin with, which yes mine are, but I'm not contributing it to my exhaust. I couldn't have it exit in front of my rear tire because I have the muffler in the stock location, and it ends too far back to exit in front of the tire. Can't put it any farther forward because of my carrier bearing crossmember.

And since its so dangerous, do you have any statistics of how many people have died because of a dumped exhaust?

Its NOT that big of a deal.

i never said dumping your exhaust would lead to immediate death...i said it increases the risk which is a fact that you cannot deny...and its therfor worth bringing up.

and that crappy thin paint ford applies to the undersides of their pickups doesnt stand up to even regular road use, much less corrosive gas. even the paint on the underside of my bed is still intact...wheras the frame is down to bare metal with a few straggling peices of black here and there.

i cut mine off 10" be hind the cats, never get any gases in the cab not even at stop lights with windows down, sounds pretty good to peaple always ask me if i have flow masters, i say i have no flows on here, need to get it fixed some time, if any thing put an angled tip on it so the shit goes to the ground and not all over your spare tire like mine does.

i got a cammed 2.9 in my b2, with straight exhaust. spent 70 bucks and had a shop cut it and weld a single piece without mufflers and whatnot. dumps out ont he right side b4 the rear axle. looks great. sounds like i got a 302 in there. and when i get off the gas at mid RPMs... it makes sounds that most dont expect from a lil 2.9
