I got these 3 6" off road lights h3
what I want to do is see if I can make them DOT safe so that I can drive at night with them on with my headlights

im thinking maybe changing the lens and maybe the bulbs as well
what do you guys think

in total when I put these on I will have 5 6" lights up front
I want to use at least two for using with my headlights

have anyone done this before...?
you guys got any ideas...?

Most DOTs specify a maximum of 4 lights at a time and a maximum candle power allowed. I would look into local and state laws before adding any more lights.

From my understanding even if you change lenses and stuff they would still be considered off road lights and wouldn't be legal. But like has been said, check your local laws.

i will look up into that!

but still wonder if u could that I've seen other trucks that have what look like off road lights but they drive with them on at night they're the about the same brightness or a little dimmer as the headlights cops don't seem to mind but i will look up into that

If the cop goes by the book and it dont say DOT approved on the housing its lights out in court.:icon_idea:

edit: The package says 8"....

This is true, you cannot "make" a non-DOT light legal for street use. One big reason is the lack of a glare shield around the bulb.
You might be able to get away with using them in conjunction with your high-beams however by wiring in a relay so they turn on & off together with your high beams, but using them while facing oncoming traffic is liable to only get people flashing you in the face with their brights.

If you want lights to have on always, look for "Fog" lights. Any DOT-compliant fog light will have said glare shield and should throw a nice low beam to fill in the dark spots left by your headlights without blinding others.

And yes, 4 lights on at once maximum.

Being from Texas originally my few run-ins with DPS was more than 4 or less than 2 they get ticket happy. Even when i was un-aware of having a pididle
