Looking to see if any 302 with C6 tranny on a B2 out there in the world? Help!!

Im sure there are but i wouldnt pick a C6 as my first option. They are heavy as hell and zap tremendous amounts of power (like, 55hp) right off the top just to turn. Not to mention unless youre building the worlds hottest 302 a C6 will be total overkill in the strength dept.

If you want a mechanical automatic I would look for a c4.

I would pick an FMX for this application over a C6. But yes the C4 is ideal.

I will dissent here and say that it's fine with some caveats. My buddy has one behind a 302 in his early Bronco (mostly stock with a little larger cam and late 60's heads.) It works great, no lack of power although it had noticeably more when he had a C4 in it. A C6 will not turn your engine into a turd, speaking from experience here. I'm guessing that since this is a Bronco II, it's a 4x4 B2, correct? A 2wd truck would be better off with a C4 or AOD.

Couple bummers about C6's - yes, they are pretty heavy. Yes, you do lose some power. They are also physically very large. Exhaust may have to be rerouted unless this is a new swap. You are limited to full size truck transfer cases - with the C4 you can use C5 parts and keep your existing t-case.

If I wanted brute strength for a crawler rig, a C6 would be my #1 choice.

Transmissions is goes whizzzzzz?

I'm in the middle of a 5.0L/C6 swap. I'm gathering pictures and will start a thread on it soon.

A C6 isn't the best transmission for this, but mine has a bunch of trick components in it and is ready to go. I'll probably swap to a built AOD at some point, but for now, I want to get it back on the road.

I'll save you the anticipation and tell you most of the problems are going to be transfer-case related and not transmission-related...

C6 has amazing transfer case options. You just have to stop thinking small truck cases and think big truck cases.

Np205... it's a heavy horsepower sucker just like the c6, but like the c6 its also bomb proof.

It's fitment that's the issue. 205 would fit better but is heavy/overkill. I'm using a np208 and find I need to trim the frame a bit. It looks like the front shaft will clear the stock front cross member but it's going to be close. 208 is plenty beefy for what I'm doing.

Yea that's kinda my point, it's a heavy beast but so is the c6 lol.

205's fit pretty well. They are kinda clunky awkward beasts but they work well. Bronco 208 would be ideal, fixed yokes on both ends, they are a lot more refined but the size is a bummer like you found out.

Couple other options, Dana 20 will work but requires an aftermarket adapter. Atlas would be the ultimate bomb diggity but super spendy.

Did ford ever use the Np241? That's a fairly small case with bolt on flanges, hell of a low gear and strong as hell. I know dodge and chebby used them, dunno about ford. They were common on the ramcharger and full size blazer. Still no contest for strength with a 205, plus the 205 has the benefit of being able to be doubled with a np203 for twin low/2wd low. You can make a 205/203 a triple stick case Hi-Lo on the 203 (2wd) high low on the 205 (2wd) so 3 2wd speeds. And then 4x4 engage on the 205 so 3 4wd speeds.

Ha! Funny how this discussion started at heavy=bad and then the 203/205 doubler topic came up.... THAT combo is mega heavy.

I haven't ever seen a NP241 in a Ford before. As far as I know after 1980 or so they have pretty much used Borg Warner t-case exclusively.

The problem with the NP241 is input spline count. The Fords use a 31 spline input. I've wondered if the input section of the NP208 would fit the NP241.

I wish the NP231 came with the 31 spline input.

Before I would use the heavy 203/205 doubler (which probably wouldn't fit in a BII anyway) I would bite the bullet and order an Atlas.
