Well, I decided agains the 85 with 2.3 just because a underpowered 4x4 sounds like no fun. Found a guy with a 88 that has the 2.9, 4x4 and a auto tranny, I think once I get over doing a full tune up on it I'm going to save up and get me a 3" BL and then sometime soon after get me some 31's.

31's wouldn't strain the tiny D28 just doing very very mild trails would it?

Plans for it are as follows:
-3" bl, 31's dd it and have fun with it
-save up and do a 4" suspention lift and swap in a D35 TTB and run 33's or something similar
-than one day many years down the road swap in a XJ D35 and expo 8.8 out back.

Then one day do full width axels and a V8 swap.

I'd like to see pics of a 1st gen with a 3" BL please :D
Thanks guys!

2.5 inch custom BL and some washers under the coils. on 30's

Wow.. Both of those look great! I'm a big fan of the 1st gen's.
A 2" lift would be sufficient, just looking for ideas and I want to keep it mild for now since it'll be my DD..
Thanks!

look in my build thread for 4" suspension lift and 30" tire pics... lol.

rather than a 3 inch BL i think i'd do a 2" budget boost and small fender trim.
some coil spacers or washers and add a leafs or shackles or blocks in the rear..

but you're b2 does NOT fit the description he gave at all...... might make him realize he's better off just sas'ing in the beginning.. i wish i did that first instead of bought the RC lift.

The D28 is fine with 31's. Here is mine back when it had a budget lift and 31's.

I ran the Ribicon like this....now that I think about it, that picture is on the Rubicon.

i however broke 2 axle shafts on my d28 on hard packed clay just trying to ride some logger roads in pontotoc... just climbing a washout.. no lockers and only 30" at's.. i had spare shafts so- i didn't do the d35 swap.

wheel the 28 till it breaks.. then worry about the swap if needed

Older crappy pic of mine, 3" bl with 31's
