have 87 B2. AT.2wd. 2.9 v6. anti lock brake amber light comes on when key is switched on and then, stays on. what would be first thing to check? maybe a fuse? sensor? thanks to all.

First check your brake fluid, make sure there is enough. Then, if there is, take the ABS light bulb out and drive like normal. Those RABS systems were TERRIBLE and usually cause more stopping issues than they prevented when they were working correctly. At least if the system isn't working it's not messing you up either.

I had the same problem with my Rear ABS. It turned out to be the VSS, Located on the rear diff. Mine was cracked and caused the light to shine, so I replaced it with a new one. Light stays off now.

adsm08,how much trouble to get to bulb in dash? it is a little annoying to look at. hate the thought of tearing whole dash apart to get to one little bulb. thanks.

I don't consider it a terrible job, but I've only done it about a million times. I can be in, have the bulb out, and put it all back together in under 20 minutes.

Take your fuse panel cover off, undo the 2 screws holding your column shrouds together, pull all the pieces of the center trim line off, take out the screws (6 to 10, some of mine are missing) that hold the dash face in, 4 screws, 2 big plugs, and the speedo cable to remove the cluster, and then just find the bulb you want, twist, and pull.

Took me an hour the first time, but I've done it a couple times now, got it down to about 15 or 20 minutes now.

I had this on mine too. The light would come on about 30 seconds after I started the engine. Replaced the sensor, system normal.

There's a large number of other causes for a lit ABS light though, so before you start replacing things willy-nilly, it would be a good idea to pull the ABS codes and see what part it's finding a fault in.

Yeah, I agree. I just went ahead and replaced it because it was cracked. Other wise I would have left it in there.

but yeah, pulling the codes is always a good place to start:icon_thumby:

what an idiot I am . I had removed the 20 a fuse, lost, or missplaced it. finally realized problem, replaced fuse and all is well. thx to all you guys.

Having the fuse for the module in is also a good idea. Probably somewhat less work than my idea.
