Hi guys. I have a 1997 Ranger extended cab with the 3.0 v6 She has 282000 miles on it and she runs like new.manual 5 speed. I am having a issue with the rear anti lock brakes. The abs light comes on once i start driving and when i give it a good amount of gas like when pulling out from a stop the brake light comes on also. But as soon as let off the gas the brake light goes out but the abs stays lit. At first it was very sporadic but now its pretty constant. I connected my scanner but it says there are no codes stored.
I would appreciate any help. I do all my own work and could use some info.
Thanks
Rick

Well, the red brake light might just be low fluid. Have you checked the brake fluid lately?

If it is low that is a sign that the brakes themselves are likely due to be replaced soon.

As for the ABS light, does your scanner actually do ABS codes? Codes are essential to doing more than guess, but I suppose you probably know that.

If I had to guess just by symptom and common issues I would say the sensor in the rear diff has given up the ghost.

My personal favorite fix-all for RABS issues is to unplug the valve, carefully tie/tape plug off the to side where it can't be seen. Then carefully place the ABS warning light bulb in the nearest garbage receptacle. Makes that light go out and the ABS problems disappear every time.

Adsm08 that's what I'm thinkin about doin to mine, swapped out the rear abs sensor and it still throws a code for no voltage...... F-it and pump the brakes lol

sent while I should be working, or fixing something,,,
