my truck is an 85 ranger the doner is a 83 full size bronco 4x4 auto my question is anyone know what the tranny is in the bronco? im not useing the 351 i have a 89 mustang 5.0 efi thats going in, i think ill be able to handle the wireing and fuel since i already did the 4.0 swap thats currently in the ranger now. thanks for ur help

if there is a 351 in the fullsize bronco a C6 is the only auto tranny that would have been offered till 89-90 when the E4OD came to life.

I thought my 86 had an AOD........ it was 351 and OD......... kept having transmission problems though.

cool ill take a look at the pan :) also just curious u know if its a 9inch rear and i belive dana 44 ifs front maybe 3.55 gears? does that sounds right? just wondering if its worth putting that under my truck i already did the 8.8 and dana 35 currenty in it

i was reading up on the trannys and it sounds like the c-6 isnt really the ideal tranny to use i guess cause its so big? now im not even sure if i should do the axles swap im sure the 8.8 and D35 should hold up ok with the 5.0 what u guys think?

I don't what to tell ya, it had the vin code for the 351. what ever it was it was a POS, Kept having transmission problems.

The AOD WAS used in the full size Bronco from '82-'93. If the shift indicator has D 2 1 it is a C6, If it has D(with an "O" around it) D L it is an AOD.
The C6 is heavy but, It is heavy duty as well. There are more upgrades for it available than any other Ford trans.
The C4 is much lighter, smaller and can easily handle the output of your 5.0.
The AOD could also handle your 5.0 fairly well and has overdrive.

i belive the tranny is a 4 speed with no od is that a c-6? if i use the c-6 i read there is huge clearance issues by the fire wall? im just wondering if i can use this tranny without to much hassle and can i use the explorer drive lines? also the computer out of the 5.0 was a auto will this auto affect the way the engine runs with this tranny just wanna make sure i have all my ducks in a row before i do this

Only overdrives are 4spd. The C6 will fit. It is tight though.
