Another Shift Rail Plug Thread

There are only 3 rubber plugs on this trans that leak. I have done this repair on my old 92 ranger and my recently purchased 93.

Rail Plugs

Hey Folks,

Will that Ford part number work with a 92 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0L? I mean I knowhis truck is a 4wd while mine is a 2wd. Could someone let me know. The part number was 1L5Z-7A107-AA.

Thanks,

Beast

1L5Z 7A107-AA will work.

Hello all. Found this forum while researching this issue.

I have a problem. A few weeks back, I removed these plugs and put some high temperature RTV on them and reinstalled. Well, they recently started to leak again. So I decided just to replace them. But when I tried to remove one of them this time, the outer part just fell apart. So I had nothing really to grab on to with my pliers. I tried a small screwdriver, and lo and behold, I pushed it inside the transmission.

Any suggestions? Did I just create a lot more work?

I think you created more work for yourself. It would bother me a great deal knowing that a piece of the plug is floating around in there, but that's just my perspective. On the other side of the coin there is a good change that the rubber plug piece will be ground up by the moving parts in the trans and cause no harm. If you choose to leave it in I would change the fluid every 1000 miles for the next few thousand miles to flush out the rubber particles.
Hope this helps.

On the other side of the coin there is a good chance that the rubber plug piece will be ground up by the moving parts in the trans and cause oil starvation and other awesome things.

FTFY
