Is there a higher capacity oil filter (than the stock size) that will screw on to a 2.9 without mods?

partially this is because i want the filter to filter longer (since i use rotella i have a longer OCI) and partly because i'd like to have more oil in the engine overall.

im not to sure about a bigger filter you could prolly do a oil filter reloaction kit and get a bigger filter that way and that would also add to ur oil capacity but why do u need more oil?

more oil is cooler oil. more filter is more filtering.

that aside, all i need is something that has the same fitting and gasket, the clearance isn't an issue, just want something bigger with the same attachment.

i understand that but you have to remeber the bigger filter you go the less likely it will be to fit. and a bigger filter isnt really going to add that much oil to the system and the bigger the filter its not really going to filter better because you wont have the oil pressure to keep the particles in the element and also a bigger filter can hurt you motor more than help. hence why i suggested to use a oil filter relocation kit it will give you more oil capacity and you can upgrade to a bigger filter nothing huge but a bit bigger maybe one for a 4.0 or 5.0

why not find a good oil filter better than the one you have now i personally like the KN oil filters i dont know of any other filter that gets that small of microns i think it is like 10 microns or something close to it

the 2.9, 4.0, and 5.0 all took the same filter up until 99/01 when the 4.0 went over to the SOHC and the FL-820. A K&N oil filter won't filter any better either. Think about this, its "high flow" How do you get higher flow? Bigger holes. What do bigger holes allow? Bigger particles to get through.

Or:

More smaller holes, which does really give you any better flow and eventually restricts it beyond expected levels. Lowering flow and pressure.

The FL-1A is fine for what you are trying to do. It can handle the filtration for an few thousand extra miles, and provides plenty of capacity for your engine. Use that and it will be running the filtration and temp it was designed for.

The MC FL-1A is the biggest oil filter that will screw on. But there is a remote location adapter kit that will allow 2x oil filters on the same line. And the threads were for the FL-1A oil filter.

The FL-1A was used on everything... 2.9, 4.0, 300, 302, 351, 460 and probably the 400.

I wouldn't run two filters on a relocation kit because of the drop in line pressure you're likely to get.

If you're worried about the price of filters, get Motorcraft. Wally-world usually has a great price on 'em.
