Hello, I'm new to the forums. I had a rear-driver-side brake hose snap on me the other day. I'm trying to replace it, but the thing with my truck is that the underside is fairly corroded; stuck bolts, disintegrating clips, etc.

Anyway, I'm trying to disconnect the hose that runs from the splitter atop the rear diff. to the rear axle, and there's like a metal boot? or something covering the connection. I'm nervous to force it in any way due to the corrosion. How do I get this thing off?

Are you talking about the little clip clamping the brake line to the axle in your first picture? You can just pry that up and the line should slip out from under it. I don’t know what that bug black thing is. Probably the axle vent line. It has nothing to do with the brakes.

I think you're looking at the axle vent... that has nothing to do with the brake lines.

the rusty tab is just some metal bent over the line to hold it. pry up slowly to release the line.
while you're down there check the steel line from the frame where it attaches to the rubber line going to the axle.
it will probably break off when touched.

Look at it from the other side, if it helps, look at the one on the other side of the axle from the front, it will make more sense, it's just folded metal spot welded to the axle tube, that screwdriver you are holding is actually the right tool for the job :)
