I bought this '98 Ranger 4.0 OHV for my son to learn to drive on and almost immediately it suffered a water pump dripping antifreeze. No problem, we're in this for the long haul so it was replaced along with the serpentine belt and tensioner.
Today, my son's birthday, i find the the thing is leaking again. I can't tell where, it seems to be dripping off the trans cooler, but I can't tell where it's coming from above that.
Is this something you Ranger folk have seen before? I'm new to the Ranger scene and my son is going to need my help keeping this truck going and making it even better.

After looking at it this morning it seems to be running down the underside of the power steering pump before it drips onto the transmission cooler. I can't see where the origin of the leak is yet. Just someplace above the power steering pump.

It could have been the water pump install, possibly unclean mating surfaces? Did you use RTV plus gasket, just gasket? ETC? We can't offer too much because we don't know the origin of the leak. Once you find that I'm sure we can be more help.

i'd start with the t-stat housing, could also be the hoses or a freeze plug. then, like armadillion said, make sure the water pump was installed correctly

Due to the location of the truck while I was hiding it from my son I wasn't able to do the water pump myself. I've already called the shop that did the job and will be bringing it back this week. I took him driving this afternoon and from what I've seen it doesn't seem to leak when running, only after being shut off.

It was the freeze plug on the head located behind the power steering pump.

that's good, at least it wasnt something expensive
