another 4x4 issue, any ideas?

so i have a 2000 ranger, when i got it i could switch from 2wd to 4 hi. and back. but 4 low never worked. drove it like that for a year or so.

now i dont have 4 hi or low. when i start the truck the 4 hi and 4 low lights will show up for a second at start up. when i switch the knob to 4 hi i can here a switching sound from behind the dash, but no 4hi light comes on, and it is not engaging the 4x4 shift motor at the t case. i can also turn the knob to 4 low and no light, but it also makes a click sound. when i switch back to 2wd it also makes the click sound. but no lights come on, and it never goes into 4wd. i tried tapping the 4x4 motor, no luck.

is this the black 4x4 mod bock behind the the dash going out? or the 4x4 shift motor? or possibly something else? or is there some fuses i should be looking at under the hood(fuses are all good in the cab)
