I have a 4 oh, pacesetter headers and y-pipe right now. I can't cut the y-pipe/cat flange off becasue I need to bolt the OEM y-pipe back exhaust on...inspection reasons.

I am going to use a spare cat flange and adapt a y-splitter to it. Then the pacesetter y-pipe will act like a equalizer and then split back to duals wear the cat should normally be.

After the exhaust splits into 2, I won't be runnin cats...I am gonna run 4 feet of 2 1/4 into two flowmaster single chamber race mufflers and dump them both.

Please don't respond telling me about exhaust gases under the bed and cab. I don't need to hear that blah blah blah bs stuff...:nono:

-Opinions on the setup???
-Is 2 1/4 pipe too big???
-Should I throw an h-pipe in there???
-Think it will sound decent???

It sounds decent enough to me, really. IMO 2 1/4 pipe is still too small, I think I'm running 2 1/2" on my Ranger. Realistically, the 4.0 should sound decent with that setup, however, don't except it to be real growly above 2300 rpm or so. At idle and low rpm it'll sound fine, but dont expect to get much growl besides *waaaahhhhh* and *Nerrrrrrrrrrr* above that.

This is just based on my 4.0, who knows yours might turn out differently.

on my 4.0 i have stock manifolds with no cats, to dual 40 series with an h-pipe. After the mufflers it has turndowns. 3" duals all the way after the manifolds. It sounds like an old mustang at idle. But once you get it above 3k it rattles windows 1/4 mile away. Gotta have the radio wide open to barely hear it above the exhaust and tires. but that is what i like. It is real easy to set off car alarms in the walmart parking lot. :-)

I set off the alarms on F-150's all over the place.... and I was downtown the other day and set off a few alarms on cars I was passing.

Volume wise, it can get pretty loud. My roommate Jessica once told me she heard me go Wide Open when I was right around 1/3 of a mile away, and she was indoors.

I'm noticing more though that different RBV owners are getting greatly varied sound quality, some claim very V8-ish sound, while others get what I got, and some get a very Ricer sounding result.

My advice: Be Weary and plan it out. Otherwise you may not be happy with the end result.

Very well said! Make sure you know what you are gettin into. You never know until it's welded/clamped up there. It all by chance...each muffler on each seperate truck is gonna sound different. I havent heard two trucks that sound EXACTLY the same.

on my 94 explorer i had the cat stock manifold and a SLP loudmouth muffler to 2- 3 1/2 tips and it sounded totaly frekn awsome !!! i loved it !

anyone have any vids of flowmaster single chambers or slp loudmouths on a 4L ranger??

Loudmouths are a lil loud with a cat im not sure w/out one it would probably be way to loud but it definately has a realy deep tone all the way until about 3500 4000 rpm!!

you have any videos of what is sounded like on the exploder?

2 1/4" is plenty big for duals. 10 series dumped without cats will be fucking loud!

I have 2.25" duals on my 5.4, I think 2" would probably be better for a 4.0.

dont put 2" on a 4.0 that would be retarded they dont even come with pipe that small i have 2" on my 2.3!!

2 1/4 - 2 1/2 with cat and a loudmouth will sound really good!

Let me rephrase!! w/a Y-pipe 2 1/4!! if you start pumping up the HP your going to wish you went with the bigger!! im not saying go with 3"!! (remember we are not talking about a honda)
