i have a 97 3.0 5 speed with like 185xxx, i had just reaplaced the alternator last week with a new belt, then still sqeeking, so today i went and got tensioner and idler pulleys hoping to fix the sqeak no dice 40 bucks down the drain all the gauges read good i have know idea, i was thinking the water pump pulley was going bad on me but its not overheating so idk. any idea's would be greatly appreciated. thanx
WILL

its a 97 tho and it stops if i spray pb blaster on the belt/pulleys and it stops for a short period. so idk

i believe he means 94 and newer. My 03 has one

probably the water pump bearing making noise

If you spray the belt and the noise goes away temporarily, the problem is the belt! One of the belt driven components are or was bad. You may have glazed the belt in the process of fixing the problem.
Spray the belt with brake clean instead. Make sure it is in fact the right belt. With the belt off, spin each component by hand and check for play. Be careful spraying the belt with flamable stuff though, it could be wrong way to solve the problem!

the belt is brand new when i was spraying it i was also spraying the pulleys, would the water pump bearings wear before the pump its self?

The 3.0 tensioner is poorly designed, so even though yours is new, your tensioner is probably out of alignment. Put a straight edge on your tensioner pulley and compare it to your crank pulley to find out for sure. If it's out of alignment then you'll have to shim it, and then your squeaking will go away.

all i replaced were the pulleys nothe the tensioner itself, would that cause it

You have a cam sync sensor and shaft on there and they are known to squeak before they go out. Its in the same place as the distributor was on the 94 and older 3.0's. When they start to go out it does sound like a pulley or belt noise. Look into that.

+1 Most likely the cam syncro squeaking on a 3.0. pretty common

I believe this also runs the oil pump so check it ASAP. I have seen a 3.0 motor lock up because the syncro failed

There are three different and separate water pump failures. 1-seal failure causing a leak, 2-bearing failure starting out with noise and left unattended could result in catastrophic failure, 3-impeller failure. Any one could happen without the others. In a bearing failure, no amount of spray will stop the noise!
If you spray the belt and the noise stops, the belt IS causing the noise! No ifs, ands, or buts about it!
Now you just have to figure out WHY the belt is making the noise. Most likely a bad tensioner or the wrong belt.
Also, spraying the belt with a lubricant could cause the belt to squeel until all the lubricant is worn off which could take days.
Good luck.

I have a 99 3.0, the waterpump bearing squealed like mad...made me nuts. Replaced the belt, tensioner pulley, and idler pulley...still squealed. Took the belt off and ran the truck no noise so I knew it was belt related...replaced the water pump...no noise. There was no excessive play in the bearing either...that's why I wasn't looking at the pump to begin with. FWIW.

viper command's tensioner was bad and caulking the pully sideways and causeing a noise as the belt slid on the pully rather than spun the pully itself... i would look at that first... when you check it, make sure there is load on the pullys... his would straighten out with no load on it
