Andres629's still at it! '87 BII this time!

These will do up to a 39.5 with the relatively small powerplant I have. No worries. And besides, the tallest I'd EVER run is a 42.

Quick update. New front clip and shock hoops/cross brace. Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it!

Rough cut line(s)... still not sure how high I'm going to have to go.

Remove the bars that you are using to hold the truck at ride height, and let it sit down on to the frame and what not that is in the way, that will tell you how far you have to cut the fenders.

Those little bars are actually holding my axle square. The frame is supported by jackstands. Honestly, cutting the sheetmetal is secondary, first things first! :icon_thumby: Thanks for the suggestion though, and that is probably what I'll do once the steering/panhard is completed.

Got the engine cage mostly done (just not mounted to the body yet...) and have thrown thoughts around inside my mind about just doing an interior cage. I'm going to be solid mounting the cab anyway, so I'm probably just going to do an interior cage. Anyway, on to the pics!

That's looking good so far!
How hard is it to get it insured? Do you need a mechanical inspection?
I have some ?? on your engine cage but will look to your updates to see answers.
One thing I have wondered [in general] is why the stinger, what is it's use?

Richard

I need one of the "The Ranger Station" stickers on like on your windshield, that should be good for 15 to 20 hp :)

Robert

Well so far, this thing has a clean regi, so I won't have to get it inspected to insure it. I plan on making it "mildly" streetable, but I have a tow rig and trailer so it's going to be trailered most of the time. As to the questions you have, go ahead and fire away! I can answer them to the best of my ability, as the updates don't always come as quickly as I'd like... haha.

Well, the stinger is kind of (in this case) more about looks than function. I like the look of them, and they are mildly practical when tied into the rest of the bumper/cage. They originated in arctic exploration and were GIANT but had a relatively shallow angle in the event that a vehicle fell into an ice crevasse. The stinger preceded the vehicle, and so if/when the front tires fell into the crevasse, the vehicle wouldn't be debilitated or its occupants killed. They were adapted into off-road rigs to prevent an endo when doing steep descents. In my case, a lot of the areas we wheel are heavily treed and it will help to push fallen trees down or around the vehicle. The angle is too steep to help in the event of an endo, but honestly, most stingers these days are not built to prevent an endo! I didn't want a giant gaudy stinger, so I kept it relatively small and tucked in so it isn't so "out-there".

That's a great answer.
Thanks,

Richard

Glad I helped!

Engine cage is 98% finished, just have to finish weld and attach to the body... although I'm not sure if I'll attach it to the body, or to the interior cage... Yes, I did say interior cage. :headbang:

Thanks Benny!

Well, got the cage finish welded all together today, throwing around ideas for the grille. A 5" light fits perfectly in the intended spots, so that's awesome. Anyway, that's the update for today.

Thanks Dustin, it's cool people think what I'm doing is cool. Haha.

Side note, no longer using a FW 8.8. I'm picking up a 9" with a Detroit in it sometime this week.

I may steal some ideas from the engine cage once I can get putting a cage on/in the B2 in my head. But for now its just gonna be sheet metal.
