Am I being Scammed????

I just got my 86 Bronco II back from the shop having a new engine installed. well NOW im having transmission problems! the guy at the shop said he put his computer on the bronco and it said the torque conter solinoid is locking up (thats why it dies on me when im going around a corner)......

MY question is... The computer on the 86 doesnt tell you anything about the transmission does it??? or is there a way to run codes for the transmission?

Thanks
Chaz.

The computer only controls TCC on the older Rangers. And it will ONLY throw electrical codes for the TCC . The computer isn't smart enough to pickup on other failures.

If the TCC is stuck on, which can happen, it'll be stuck on all the time, not just going around corners. If it is stuck on, the engine will chug as you come to a stop but will unlock as it shifts into 1st. The valving won't allow lockup in 1st gear.

Well, im going to just go have my rebuilt AGAIN. just did it 2 1/2 year ago. oh well!!!!

CHaz.,

oh jump right to rebuilding again. maybe a little troublehooting before that. if its a wire shorting or a back sensor then your going to waste money

I dont now BEANS about transmissions.. The guy i was going to have rebuild it has done alot of work for me and freinds, i trust him.. Im going to let HIM diagnose it. The guy who told me originally that the tranny( is the one who replaced my engine and didnt put no transmission fluid back in and i drove it for 2 days) he claims he DID put fluid back in... So screw it! Im just gunna take it to my guy and have him look at it. HE will tell me the truth!

Will he really tell you the truth?

Or will he tell you it needs a rebuild, so he makes some cash?

Just because you don't know anything about trannies, does not mean you cannot learn.

Most who have recurring A4LD gremlins end up swapping for an M5OD.

I made the swap way back when I had my '89 BII and I will NEVER have another A4LD.

Hope yours is something minor, but if it needs rebuilt again, look into an M5OD.

The swap is surprisingly easy.

Isnt the m5OD a manual tranny???

Chaz.

Exactly. That's why it solves the A4LD problem so well. Clutch kit = $125. Trans = $300. Pedal assembly = $50. Throwing the A4LD off the back of my Ranger at the scrap yard after the Mazda trans was installed = priceless.:yahoo:

can you use the factory manual shifter??? i have 4wd on mine.

CHaz.

Yes.

The M5OD is exactly the same length as the A4LD, so everything lines up perfectly.

No driveshaft changes, no transmission crossmember changes.

The 4x4 M5OD will bolt right up to your t-case.

And like cocoasranger said, there is an inordinate amount of satisfaction in pitching the A4LD off at the scrap yard. :yahoo:

what i mean is, ( How do i explain this) when i put out the automatic shifter and place in the new factory shifter, will the 4x4 shifter be in the way? or do i just need to change the shifter boots and im done?? Also, does the cluch pedal just pop right in with no mods??

Then next thing!

Where do i find a good factory shifter setup??

Change shifter boots.

The metal plate under the carpet that the shifter goes through may need slight trimming. I got a solid one out of an automatic Explorer and cut my own holes.

As far as a factory shifter setup, hit the junkyards.

But if you're up to spending an extra $220, everyone says the Hurst shifter for the M5OD is a wonderful improvement. I'd like to try one 'cause I can't quite convince myself to spring for it without experiencing it first.
