So, I installed my cheap ass 500w monoblock amp to power my sub until i have enough money to get a new one, well, it worked GREAT for the first like, 4 days. Tonight however, On the way home, I came to a stop, and my amp cut out, I was confused but there was nothing I could do while driving. So I left the stoplight and the amp cut back on around 2k rpm's, But I had to keep it above 2k for it to stay on, Can anyone help me with this? I'm not sure if I need to get a capacitor, I checked all the connections, So it's not that, But I can't think of anything else it'd be. :icon_confused:

i wouldnt think just a 500w amp needs caps. do yo have any other amps running?

Nope, Just the 500w running my 10" sub. It's bugging the crap out of me haha, I took the positive, ground, and the remote off the amp and re connected. Even disconnected the Rca cables and remote from the headunit and made sure there was still good connections there.

maybe a bad alternator or battery... or just a bad connection... its obviously a power source problem if it stays on above 2k rpm

i would say this too. my amps will power on w/o the engine started so idk, they are only 240wrms but there is two.

Yeah, I was thinking this too, But it just didn't make sense that it would power on and stay on 2k+ but not any less, I just tried to start it up after i disconnected my positive and reconnected and the amp wont even turn on at 2k+ now.

its the amp. if you have a bad battery your truck wouldnt start, or would have trouble starting. if your alt is going bad your truck wouls show it. by shutting off, or everthing blinking as you over draw your alt.

as far as your amp. you can have ran it to hard, and you said it was cheep, a circute inside of it could have cracked and when you run it all out it heats up and disconnects. were running it at 2k keeps its from getting to hot. if your losing power all togetther check a break in your wires/ fuses. if your amp stays on but no noise. check your rcas you can blow the amp in your HU too.

a cap wouldnt help. and you have to do the big 3 or big 4 before you cap anything. try swaping out the amp with your buddies and see what happens

lol i killed my amp under 2 feet of mud and water won't do that again

Haha, I just checked today at the battery and the positive cable's running to my fuse won't spark when i touch it with a screwdriver a pair of pliers, and that exact thing runs all the way back to the amp so I was figuring that it was just the terminal I had the posi wire sitting in. So I disconnected it and reconnected it, still not able to get a spark, gonna go grab a volt meter, But I'm in talks with a friend for his ppi amp so idk yet haha.

However to just through it out there, My amp has a power light-up button, And it usually blinks blue, when I start my car up it blinks red now, However, That could be the rca cables or remote wire running to the amp trynna tell it to work, Doubtful, But that'd be my only other thought as to how it's getting the power to blink red.

Just to mention this, I do have problems starting since I installed the amp. Its not necessarily a problem, But when I start up it turns more than usually before starting, and when it starts, It sounds weaker than it used too. Not by alot, But noticeable to me.

what gauge power and ground are you running?

Where is your amp grounded? What size fuse is on your power cable?

IDK what to do here, but just trying to ask questions that maybe might help other ppl figure something out... good luck bro

running 4 gauge wires all over, i have my amp grounded to the chasis underneath a bolt close to where my sub is mounted.

and i have no idea what size fuse haha, i'm just running a 4 gauge amp setup i bought from raptor haha.

thanks alot bro, appreciate it.

that's not the best sign, i would read up on the amp and see if its toast or if its the thermal protect.

Yeasounding like definitely a amp problem. Do you kno the brand/model? I doubtits to much drAw unless battery or alt is bad. I have my sub on 1k rms and my mids/highs on 300 wrms with no voltage probe. All I have done is big3.
