What is the amp draw for low/high beam on a 2001 xlt ranger? Both my low and high beams seem to be quite dim and before I go hooking up my multi meter wanna know if it is above 10amps. The bulbs are brand new.

I=P/V. The wattage is written on the bulbs, you can measure your voltage with your multimeter.

#9007 DOT headlight bulbs IIRC have a 55W low beam, and a 65W high beam. ×2, that's right about 11 amps for your hi beams (it'll be higher still with the engine running).

That occurred to me while I was typing, but I wanted a base amperage to compare my readings to.

Generally the problem is a dirty/corroded connection *Somewhere* (your guess is as good as mine) that reduces voltage at the bulb.

Do remember that the resistance can also be on the ground side.

If the bulbs are silvery/black looking simply replace them, even halogen bulbs only have a RATED service life of something like 1500hours.
