Alternator Troubles

My alternator has been acting funny so I decided to replace it. I read in the tech library (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/alternator.htm) that one from a 1997 F250 5.4 V8 would fit my 1991 STX 4X4. I went to a junkyard and asked for it they said they had it from an expedition with the same engine. I got it home and it doesn't have the same mounting as the stock alternator. It looks to have 2 mounts on the bottom in a sort of V pattern. Is it possible to fashion a bracket for this alternator to work?

This is a picture of a similar mount but this isn't it.

need more info?

knowing what size engine you have would help me in helping you. being that it is an stx i would have to say its got a 2.9l, 3.0l, or a 4.0l. on my 3.0l, im running a 1993 e150 alternator from a 5.8l. its rated at 130 amps and im also running dual batteries so this was my reason for upgrading my alt size. www.genco1.com is a good site to look at alternators by group and application, its the site i used to determine what alt i could use.

Bump.

OK forget that above I need to know if my 1991 STX Superbab ranger 4WD with a 4.0L V6 has a 75 Amp or an 80 AMP alternator. Any ideas on how to find out without taking it off.

nope, it will be printed on the alternator itself. each truck is different and they all have different amp ratings. sorry thats the best i could tell ya.

Haha I just saw that I wrote Superbab instead of supercab, anyways where will it be printed?

I can't find a label on any part that's visible. The only writing that i can see, but can't read due to obstacles and the angle, is on the regulator.

A Triton alternator is definitely not going to fit your ranger. Any 4.0, 3.0 or later 2.3/2.5 alternator will bolt on though. If the alternator case looks similar to that one you got off of the f250 then the output would be 95 or 130 amps from the factory.
