im having low voltage problems in my 99 3.0 flex fuel. i took my alternator out and got it tested its fine. when i put it back in my truck it only puts out 11 volts regardless of the rpm's. im stumped please help. thanks

check the small connectors on the alternator. I believe on of them is the reference voltage and it sounds like it's not getting to the alternator.

put a voltage meter on the battery and check it. are you just going by the gauge? I would verify it with a volt meter (DVOM) if it shows low then do a voltage drop on all the wires at the battery and alternator including the ground to the engine.

i figured it out. the wires to the alternator chafed on each other and blew the fuse. thanks for the help!

I need help i have a 94 ranger with a 2.3 i cannot figure out why it wont charge. the alternator was making a growling noise and the light came on, i stopped and the little single wire was unplugged from the alternator, clip is broke, i plugged it in and the gauge came up and the light went off. the next day the light came on again, the wire was plugged in all the way this time. since the alternator was making noise, i replaced it and tested it b4 i installed it. the alternator is fine but now my truck will not charge at all or if it does it's only charging at 11 volts. I have put a test light on every fuse in the truck and they are all good what am I missing? PLEASE HELP!

make sure that the single wire is actually in is connector. if it came unplugged by itself there is a chance that the pin retainer is broken as well and that the wire has come loose.
