Alternatives to coffee?

Exercise. When you wake up, do a few sit-ups and push-ups. You can also try jogging. Prettymuch anything that gets your heart rate up will keep you awake.

It also helps to burn off a big breakfast.

Did someone say cocaine jk lol, dude i wake up at 600 i dont eat till 12 and inbetween that six hours im continously welding with most of the time no food and im a big guy, o shit thats off trac, **** ummmmm, o yea umm try ice cubes on the balls trust me sounds wierd but it works

I love & enjoy my coffee every morning & been drinking it for over 45 yrs. I guess you could say I'm addicted to it but I can do without anytime I have to. For what's it's worth, I add 2 tablespoons of Armor baking soda to a can of coffe & mix it. It removes the acid in the coffee. At least that's what a doctor told me many years ago. I guess it works as drinking coffee never bothers me at all. I can drink a hot cup of fresh brewed coffee 5 minutes before going to bed & fall asleep in less then 5 minutes. I don't think it actually does anything for me as far as keeping me awake or alert as it does some people. I just like the taste of it. I drink it black with nothing in it. I remember back when I was in the Army the DI told us you had to be a man to drink it "straight". Not sure about that being true but I've been drinking it "straight" for many many years now. Like sex, I can't get enough of it. lol

That's interesting - never heard of using baking soda before, however I can definitely see how it would work. I'll give it a shot. I really don't want to give up my coffee, and I was starting to think the heartburn was caffeine related, since decaf doesn't phase me at all. BTW I like it black too. Never have cared to put anything else in it.

I've been relying on coffee to wake me up in the morning but it gives me some serious heartburn later in the day. I don't like energy drinks or pop, and I've tried apples...heard they worked well but turns out they don't for me. I think no-doz/pills are out too.

What do you guys do?

I drink coffee (for VaGent, black espresso with no sugar , a habit started in Italy, where the brewed coffee tastes like donkey balls -- does that make me "manly?").

But it's not always available or advisible. Say, on a transoceanic flight or when observing.

If you don't seem to be able to get enough sleep regardless of the number of hours, see a doctor. There are several common and manageable problems that might cause that. Like sleep apnea or hypothyroidism or chronic allergies.

If you brew coffee...put a few shakes of salt in it to remove the bitterness/acid...baking soda would work too as mentioned, but it may cause clumping if you put too much in it...

heartburn can also be aleviated by adding milk to your coffee if you take it black...or eating something like rice that is alkaline...or those styrofoam-like rice cakes would work if you can get them down...good for glutten intolerance too...

Otherwise...ginsing tea worked for me for many years...except the stuff tasted like roots (which it is, essentially)...so putting honey in it may be necessary...

I just went to my doctor because I have have been experiencing a pretty sever decline in energy levels and stress has become some what difficult to manage and overwhelming.

Found Vitamin D deficiancies and had Test levels taken.

So now I take 50,000 mg of Vit. D per day.

Along with Vitamin B-12 complex daily, for an energy kick, I have straight b-12 sublingual liquid that enters the system immediatly. This isn't like caffeine where you get a huge surge of energy and then a dramatic decline. It feels much better for the system and can last all day. This perticular liquid is 20000% daily value.

Waiting on test levels, which I think we'll find low. These have huge impacts on your energy and stamina.

50 g of vitamin D? Holy crap. That's almost 2 oz. Must be one heck of a horse pill. Or an IV bag.

I routinely use a lukewarm (or even mildly chilly) shower to wake up if coffee is not an option. Which is fairly common (though less so these days) when travelling, as badly burned coffee will be worse than no coffee at all (it generally turns my stomache -- literally).

Breaking a caffeine addiction takes only a couple of days, though they aren't very pleasant days. The biggest symptom is a SPLITTING headache.

Eat something light in the morning. I eat toast. A heavy breakfast will put you back to sleep. Also try waking up 10 or 15 minutes earlier than you need to and leave some extra time in the morning to let your body get going. Also try waking up mentally and your body will follow. Do something that makes you think in the morning, even just a little, like play solitaire. I know that sounds kinda weird but games like solitaire, freecell and minesweeper force you to think quite a bit and constantly observe what has changed. Gets your mind into gear pretty quick.

Yeah, they are some of the largest pills I've ever had to swallow, but they are going down easy. They are capsules and about 3/4 inches long and about a 1/4 inch in diameter.

I'm also taking L-Tyrosene for mood enhancement, 3000mg throughout the morning and afternoon. 100 mg 5-htp for nighttime. I say this because these are helping with addiction symptoms. I'm having no problem breaking a 2-3 liter Mt. Dew/day PROBLEM with this stuff. L-tyrosine is transformed to L-dopa, then to Dopamine. It continues to norepinephrine, and epinephrine. Feel good chemical to the brain. 5-htp turns into seratonin, another feel good chemical that has other benifits in your body as well.

If you drink Mt. Dew, you need Iodine supplements. Mt. Dew has Brominated Vegitable oil, among other harmful chemicals, that mimics iodine and gets aborbed in it's place which supresses thyroid function.

You should check with your doctor if your interested in taking any of these supplements. They can have side effects even though they are sold as vitamins and supplements over the counter. Your doctor will help you sort through these, or point you to an herbalistic or naturopathic doctor who can.
