Hey guys, im about ready to start the v8 swap in my 2000 Ranger XL, I picked up my 2000 AWD V8 Explorer today for $1000, runs good, motors clean and good compression. My next question is , my Ranger is a 4x2 Stepside single cab, its obvious im not going to use the transfer case so how would I use this transmission??? Do I remove the transfercase and use some kind of adapter or a different transmission?? How long of a drive shaft do I need, and can I use the Explorers rearend? :icon_confused:

Also my ranger currently has a 5 sp mounted to the 3.Slow and id kinda like to use a T-5, are there any step by step fourms on how to do this considering im not a transmission guy at all..lol

If it's an M50D you will need to replace the tail shaft and tail housing for a 2wd version I believe. Then you will be able to keep your stock shaft.

Never happened with an AWD Explorer...

You will need to disassemble it and reassemble it with a 2wd extension housing and output shaft... or you could just find a 2wd transmission and resell the one you have now (along with the t-case)

Hang on to the Explorer's rear driveshaft, it may be close to working in your shorter truck. Keep in mind it is much cheaper to have a shaft shortened than lengthened. You are going to have to put it in there and see how it plays out, no two swaps are the same.

Unless you want to lower your truck 4" you will need new brackets for the rear axle and shock brackets reguardless and you will add a lot of strength and disc brakes to your ride. I am doing the same to mine, it will likely go in next weekend. :icon_thumby:

If you want a little extra beef in the rear end the rear springs will bolt in too, may add a little height though.

where are you located? i have a 2wd 5.0l 97 mountaineer transmission for sale left over from my v8 swap project
