Almost Complete

Since it doesn't (really) do under wot, which means under open loop it doesn't do it, I'd look at the O2 sensors, check/clean the egr valve, and Maf for oil deposits...

So I went and ordered one of these today. Be here next week!
ArcanPress.jpg

Also went to Discount Tire to have my wheels & tires balanced as the 85 mph speed limits down here have been shaking my guts out! Come to find out I had 2 bad wheels! So the truck got 4 of these! Dark when I got home so I'll have to throw up a truck with wheel pic tomorrow.

Since the truck doesn't do as much wheeling anymore. It does do duty as; boat puller, hog hunt transportation in some offroad, utility trailer tower, Panhead show bike hauler. I have a Brother of mine who is going to teach me bodywork and we're fixing all the Turkey Bay bodywork and giving it a fresh paintjob of Metal Flake purple cherry! Also a new winch mount and some better bumpers!

I got one of those, but in hf orange flavor, 20 ton...

Some things I'll buy from HF, this was not one of them. I don't want a seal blowing in my time of need, I wanted a wider opening in the bed & not interested in a buckling bed. I read some reviews & didn't like what I read about the HF or the Big Red _ _ _ _ _ models, so I ordered an Arcan. I really wanted a 100 or 150 ton Dake, Mead or SUNEX, but I'll look till I find a used one of those.

Daily Driver. Not yard ornament.

Well, it's been forever and a day since the truck had an update. Had a miss in the motor that I couldn't find or get rid of. Since it's 19 years old, it got some preventive maintenance in the quest to find the miss; new O2 sensors, new coil, new IAT, New (I can remember what that other thing was but it got replaced too). Still a miss. Well, %$&%%%$&*%$, I'll drive it till it blows or quits. And it almost did, fired it up 4 miles away at HEB and it was missing, wouldn't quit, got it home, let it cool. Pulled plugs 1 @ a time to find 1 fouled. NOPE! Had 1 that the electrode was completely gone, put in a new 1, all fixed, purring like a kitten.
Then I also had a driveline vibration. Been getting worse for the last year! Here's what happened with that one; Reset Pinion angle at 5* instead of pointing straight at tcase, New R&P (4.56) in rear axle with a Cobra LSD, replaced center chunk in front with one I got off someone on here that had 4.56 with an Auburn ECTED (I'll let y'all know after some extended use how it does), tires rotated, driveshafts to driveline shop to check for balance. YUUP, there it is!!! Seems the last time I went to Turkey Bay and I heard the rear shaft going clunkety clunk clunk on a rock, I bent it. But it took over 2 years for the ujoints to start failing. New joints, shaft straightened! NO MORE VIBRATION! Drive better and smoother than it ever has since I bought it bone stock in '06!!!
I took out the powertrax lockers because I'm just not wheeling that hard anymore. Between fishing (well now that I can tow the boat), hog hunting, motorcycle riding, going to Circuit of the Americas for Formula 1 & MOTOGP. The only time I use 4wd anymore is when a Brother of mine needs a tree winched off a house when he's clearing dead trees, possibly at Mud Cove to launch the boat, slightly hog hunting. So I went back to LSD. Got a deal on the Auburn, thought it was an Elocker but it wasn't. I have the Auburn wired up, locks and unlocks, but haven't really used it in a need situation other than up the steep gravel hill at the other house. Seems to work good so far either unlocked for LSD or locked for locker. A little temperamental to unlocking. Had to do back and forth and gentle turns left/right. From what I read, it needs to settle in and friction formula to seep in. See how longterm it works.
Also put on a set of sidesteps, yeah I was going to cut, grind, weld up some sliders. But I just don't need them, so I went, JY find sidesteps. Not running boards! 3" tube aftermarket bolt ons. I had to modify the mounting because of the body lift, so the welder got used again too.
So yes there is a center chunk with 3.73s with a lockrite in it that will be for sale. And a rear 3.73 R&P with a lockrite. I'll post them up once they're for sale, I have to clean them and I'll be out of town a while, AGAIN!! Glad I got it all fixed, because it was about to get parted out or sold!!!

So, yeah translation for ALL that.
It's more of a Turkey bay experienced, sheet metal modified, Daily Driver, Grocery Store Parking lotter! I don't go to malls' so mall crawler don't apply!!!

Glad to see you got it figured out. The miss is usually the simplest of things to go wrong, don't over think it!

Those plugs had only about 4,000 miles on them along with a new set of wires. I had pulled them all & checked them, looked good. I've had the tip collapse on 1 before in one of the HDs but never lost the whole electrode. I figure, bad lot, maybe somebody dropped a pallet of them in shipping, or someone dropped the box while shelf stocking. The electrode was cracked & just not visible, hence the bad fire at idle but once revved, throwing more rapid spark. Just had to fall apart for good. I sure know if that condition ever rears it's head again what it is. I'll just go get a whole new set and change them, plugs are cheap, compared to all that other stuff. Anyway, replaced a bunch of components that were old, and each time I did, it perked up a little more. So definitely didn't hurt anything.

Crap! I did a whole write up yesterday about my new winch mount & it didn't take.
Got tired of my 10,000lb capacity CPE winch hanging 2 feet in front of my front bumper like a pendulum. So it got stuft between the frame rails!
Started with this but didn't want to cut the grill, header panel that much, or block that much air.

So we went here! Had to trim the hood latch support a few inches, but there's plenty left!

Mounted! The plate is also acting as a cross brace. Yeah, we welded it in! The winch will unbolt and till out if needed. We did so to finish welding the plate in, so know it works!

Then we started on Bumper. I had some tube bumper pics but we just couldn't fidn what we wanted. My Brother Steve picks up the old chrome factory bumper and says "Let's us this it's already built!" I told him no it's too flimsy and I'm sick of that thing. He replied "I've not massaged or worked it yet!" No arguing with the 40 year fabricator/machinist! Here's something he's built from junk over the last 15+ years. 1960 Chevrolet Apache dually, 350ci, 400HP+, 4 speed, 14 bolt, flatbed!

It pulls duty as a logging truck! All hand built in his driveway!

I remember when there were no floorboards!

Steve's an old Texas Hippie, gearhead, high teck guy in a low tech world with barely a cell phone. I've seen Euro cars (HE HATES them) pull out in front of him & then he'll play Jeepers Creepers with them! HILARIOUS!! It rides, straight tracks true and will do 100+ quickly!!!
Back to bumper! 1st we pulled off that plastic trim piece and welded in all the holes. Then we capped the ends where SVT & I had cut it off years ago for tires clearance! It has served it's purpose but facelift time!!!
Old cuts

Capped ends!

It also got custom brackets and boxing behind it for strength! It's not a standard stocker anymore!
It got a lot of grinding and sanding then we painted it! It also flows well with the fender line!!!

Finished product before removal, paint, and finish welding all the mounts!

And SHAZAM! Facelift! With hidden winch! The truck drives so much better because 200+ lbs isn't being a pendulum off the front of the bumper. I also have MCU better approach angle back!!!
a shot from last night when we finished!

One this morning in daylight!

New header panel on order which will be painted purple & then we'll also paint the grill black!
Will tackle the bent up rear one next week!!

I also finally got the whole frame some POR 15. We opened the can to do the front frame & horns and it was solid as a rock. We could feel there was still liquid in the can underneath. No punching a hole thru that stuff. So we sealed the can back up and went in through the bottom. It spewed everywhere when we punched a hole in it. So it got poured in another container and I went to slathering and slathering and slathering. If you've ever worked with POR15, well YOU KNOW! If you haven't, have fun!!! I was able to use all that we could get out of the can!
I also got stuck 2 weeks ago fishing! Went to the local lake, which is 50+' low from our drought. So it's bank launching and it's a STEEP beach!!! Back the trailer with the boat into the lake, pushed the boat off, got in the truck, eased out on the clutch and the back end sunk! Front axle not pulling!! Dangit!!, Got the boat back on the trailer, waited a while after shoveling, etc... There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING To hook a winch to and no one in sight! Was about to unhook the trailer, see if I could 2wd out, then winch the boat & trailer up the hill. WHEW a couple guys showed up and I got a tug!!
Came home and found when I put in a new clutch I didn't get the plug back on the transfer case shift motor good!!. And my front axle C clip eliminator spring had gotten weak and was letting my pass. side axle slip out of the splines in the differential. Took that all apart, moved the spring closer and put another bead around the axle to hold the spring. Regreased all the wheel bearings while i was at it.
Also found the green bearing loctite I had put on the spindles to hold the dreaded outerlocking nut in place that everyone always has problems with was PERFECT!!! No loosening or anything! And it had been over a year!!! I'll do a little write up then post for a tech submission. Steve was over here one day when I was doing them and said "No you're doing it wrong." He's old stubborn, but i'm not arguing with him. he's been wrenching WAY LONGER than I have! He also built the motor in my truck over 40,000 miles ago and still running like a top!! So I use the green bearing penetrating loctite on the outer nut!!

Looking good, Jay! When you're gonna pass this way to get the B2?
