Car was losing coolant and owner complained of a leak. We could see the general area of which it was coming from, but needed a closer look. We basically told the owner....once we took everything off......it was getting fixed....

03' VW Passat with a 2.8 v6.

Our problem......a cracked thermostat housing.

Had to put a tool on to hold the top cam shafts in place. Had to move the timing belt out a little, but still wanted to be safe.....interferance engine and all.

Installation was in reverse order......blah blah.

All in all it took me the better part of a day, but it was my first one, and I took my time in order to get everything back properly.

And I thought the t-stat housing on my truck was a pain the butt to get to.:icon_confused:

Yeah, as intense as it was, it really wasn't THAT hard. Just time consuming.

Good God that looks like a PITA. Kinda odd how it has a mechanical fan and its off to the side like that.

I had a 97 Ford Probe GT (awesome car) with Mazdas KLDE. To do the water pump, the engine had to be jacked up on one side so you could reach the pump + all of the bolts for the timing cover had to go along with all belts. Just seemed like so much for work a water pump.

Then you've got my truck...A 2.9. Its right there and easy as pie to get to. I love it :D

Yea! Volkswagons are like that. It's hard to imagine how they went from the old beetles simplicity the what they have now.

There is both a mechanical fan and electric fan. The mechanical fan runs all the time and the electric fan runs when the a/c is on, and during extreme hot conditions.
