On a dana 28, do i need to remove the ball joint to remove the alignemnt bushing? I havent had it apart in a few years and i forget exactly how it went together, thanks.

no. if its not rusted solid you might be able to pry it out once you take the bolt off. I had to pull the knuckle off and hit it from below.

cool, i think it should come apart easy, i just changed them 3 years ago. The damn snowplow has my front end saggin quite a bit now

I recall the D28 requires you to break the balljoint stud taper loose to get the bushing out or adjust it. Once loose, the bushing can then be pulled out the top from around the stud.

Air chisel is your best friend for under $25 at Lowes

I just gotta pound the stud down a little bit to break teh taper? I can get a air hammer to tap it down if i need it

no...loosen the pinch bolt, remove the snap ring, and chisel UP^ on the alignment bushing.

I never had much luck hitting the stud itself on my D44 TTB (which has a similar bushing config as the 28), you may have to break the whole knuckle loose before you can remove or adjust it. I didn't want to damage it however, so I never tried wailing on it.

I don't normally recommend this, but on mine I've loosened the castle nut 1.5 turns or so, then stick the cotter pin back in and drive on it for 5-10 miles. This allowed it to pop up enough I could then beat it the rest of the way out with a hammer against the side of the beam. YMMV. Just DON'T FORGET you loosened it and keep driving on it lol!

Thats for a D35, not the 28.
