Hi there North AL folks. My very first post on TRS. Have used info on this website a few times to keep my '88 Ranger 4x4 going so finally decided to join up. Listed my home as Huntsville but actually closer to Arab.
Love my little '88 Supercab 4x4. It's mostly used around home & on the farm, 4:10 gears aren't for the open road. It's built a little odd with dual tanks, leather seats, vent windows & push out side windows. The 2.9 is coupled to an auto tranny & auto front hubs. Everyone seems to want manual hubs but I prefer to just push a button when the need arises - don't have to get out & get muddy to lock in the front axle.
Just finished installing lower intake gasket on the 2.9. Not fun on a 4x4 even tho I had a brother in law helper & removed the two front wheels to lower it as much as possible. The cork seal at the the manifold rear had dry rotted & oil leak was getting worse & worse. Dang distributor oring seal was a hold up. No one had in stock so had to wait two days for AutoZone to ship one in - cost a whole $1.19! Should have gotten all gaskets in before starting. Another leak was discovered just before tearing her down - oil level sensor in the side of the oil pan. Can't get from Ford, almost $100 on eBay so now there's siliconed bolt thru the old sensor housing. I'm waay too old for this stuff.
I'm in Huntsville and finally gathering parts to lift my '03. Hopefully, this time next year, I'll be able to do some of the trails I used to go to, when I had my old TJ Rubicon! I can start a North Alabama Ranger/Bronco/Explorer group on Facebook, if anyone would be interested in it?
There's a '90 Ranger at a recycle yard in Bird Song, AL (don't bother w/ Google, you wont find it. Near Cullman) with a 4" suspension lift under it. Looks pretty decent & will be cheap. You will have to remove it. Phone # is 256-735-4138 if anyone is interested.
