It slips in all gears. No other problems. What might this cost me at a repair shop? Anyone know? And also, if those are the only symptoms, is it reasonable to ask what the cause might be?

You could adjust the bands before the filter and fluid change. They are on the drivers side of the trans. You will need a special socket and an Inch pound torque wrench to do it. The adjustes need to be backed out to 10 inch/lbs and tighten the jamb nuts up when done. Notice I said backed out, those are connected to the bands and tighten when you back them out. You have never said what color is the fluid and what does it smell like?

Ummm if you back the center screw out you are backing off the band...
Loosen the lock nut and turn the center screw in till it snugs up (about 10 foot pounds)and back center screw out 1 1/2 turns..adjust both bands this way and be sure
to tighten locknut. I believe a 3/8 12point socket will fit the center screw and the lock nut is 3/4 or19mm.
Here is some reading for you also. The vacuum modulator I would check first. Pull the vacuum line off and see if it is leaking. If it is leaking then replace it. But it has nothing to do with the transmission slipping it is more for the shifting of the trans.
