Hey all,
My brother was in a wreck about 6 months ago with his 1999 ranger. Blew both bags. I reset the inertia sensor and still wont crank over? I have the battery charger on it as well have a full charge. I was going to rent a OBD2 reader to read the codes over but they are all currently rented out.

Is there code that wont let me crank the truck over? it doesn't even sound like the fuel pump is coming on.

I did notice that when i try to turn it over that i get a click out of the relay right under the glove box.

Airbag light is flashing code 19.

I unplugged the Crash box under the cup holders but still nothing.

Any thoughts would be helpful!
Thanks in advance!

Also when i reset the inertia switch do i just push the red button down? When i push it up the warning light on the cluster says fuel reset. correct?
Thanks again

You should just have to push the red button until you feel it latch or click it to reset the switch.

See if you have any pressure and spark. I've seen a lot of crashed cars where a wire gets cut and so it won't fire over.

Have you checked all your fuses?

ill check the fuses now. I cant check spark. The engine wont even turn over. What i mean is the starter wont even engage. not sure if its getting power. Ill check that as well

I was wondering if there was a code that needed to be cleared in order for it to let the truck start again. Ill let you know about the fuses in a few

I'm not sure why the truck won't start, but the inertia switch is not for the air bags, it's only for the fuel system.

Is the engine turning over? Does it sputter and just not start? Or does it just click and not do anything? I'd pull the steering wheel apart and check out the column, as the force of an air bag deploying can destroy many components, including the clock spring.

Most consumer code scanners will not give you airbag codes (or ABS codes for that matter). It's done this way to keep the majority of people from goofing with the safety systems on vehicles. You'll need to find a professional (ie....couple thousand dollar dealership unit with the proper software) in order to get these codes, or take it to a dealership.

True, but usually an impact hard enough to trigger the airbags will trip the inertia switch too.

No doubt about that. Last time my bags deployed and my inertia didnt trip i wound up with a bouncing baby boy. :icon_thumby:

if the truck is a automatic, try to turn the key until the wheel lock would disengage, but not all the way to the starting position. after that, pull the shifter down to neutral, then back to park and then try to start the truck. my truck does the same thing from time to time and that is all it needs. some sort of park/neutral safety switch that prevents it from starting in gear. give that a shot and see what it does. if it doesnt work, at least it didnt cost you nothing!

Well thanks for the help everyone still no go on cranking it over. Checked all the fuses found one that was blown started getting excited and it ended up being the cigarette lighter :annoyed:

The is not turning over. doesnt start or sputter. starter never engages and it doesnt even make any noises like it is going to.

What is the clock spring that you speak of?

Im thinking this lil electrical demon is gettin to me! lol

Thanks for all the help so far!

The clock spring is a sliding contact on the column for power to the steering wheel components (horn, airbag, CC) I doubt it would be the cause of your no-start.

Check the battery voltage, the impact might have shorted it out.

ill check it later today. I did have the battery on a charger and to starting mode to possibly help it out but had a no go. Ill check wiring as well.

Any other possibilities?
