Airbags Deployed. now it wont crank over? 1999

is the starter relay clicking on the inner fender? If so, double check the small wire going to the starter...make sure it is fully seated on the spade connecter

when i turn the key to crank it a relay under the glove box clicks. Not sure what relay it is for . . just an FYI

the relay for the starter should be located inside the engine compartment, on the driver side, the big relay box.
maybe whats clicking under the glove box is another safety device.
try to take a look and see if u can un plug it.

if its a manual, u are pressing the clutch right? :icon_twisted:

I can unplug it, ill see what happens. and yes it is a manual and im pushin the clutch lol :) thanks for checking tho. Been there watched that happen before lol

Almost sounds like the PAT system. Try a different key and make sure only one key is in the truck.

fast clicking relays are usually a sign of low power.

What are the gauges doing?

A PAT system failure would not allow it to click like that though...

instead of screwing around with the key and starter, why dont you bump start the truck and see if it is going to atleast run?

Nope, it wouldn't.

A low power issue can mimic a PATS problem though if the antenna isn't getting enough juice.

ok so ignition relay doesnt click when i try to turn it over. I unplugged the other relay and tried it and still nothing. Possibly the PATS. Im going to take it to the dealership and have them reflash the PATS crap.

Guages work. shows voltage. also check engine light is on obviously along with the chech gages light as well. Ill check voltage again tommorrow.

I could crank it by jumpin the starter but if im not mistakend the fuel pump wont operate. I dont think there is any reason why it wont run. i just want to make sure before investing in the money to fix it.

Try this, I think you said you have a manual transmission....get a friend to help you out....

Put the truck in neutral, with the key turned to the off position. Have your friend sit in the drivers seat and hold the brake pedal (or if you can't get someone to help you, set the park brake). Under the hood, you will find the starter solenoid/relay. Using a large flat head screwdriver, short out the two large terminals on this. This causes the starter to engage. See if this will turn the motor over. If this is the case, then it's something in the ignition circuit, if not and all is does is click, then it's the battery.

It wouldn't hurt to have a volt meter on the battery when trying this, as it will give a true reading of what the battery voltage is when it's under some load.

**BE SURE THAT THE TRUCK IS IN NEUTRAL (OR PARK IF AN AUTO)!!**

This can also be used when a faulty starter solenoid is suspected as it bypasses it (I've have to start a couple vehicles like this).

as i recall, the keys gotta be in the "on" position in order to jump the starter solenoid, aaaaannnndddd, its gotta be the "hot" battery terminal(its a big one that goes straight to the battery) and the "s" teminal(the little one that goes to the starter). also, try maybe banging on the starter a little, those starters have a tendancy of "needing a beating" sometimes...haha that rhymed. also, before you go to the dealer, try one last thing. unplug the inertia switch and jump the wires to it..the switch itself could be bad. accually scratch that inertia switch thing, thats only for the fuel system.

Well heres the update:
Had the battery checked out they said it was bad.
Got a new battery.

Next had the locksmith come out with his PATS machine and check the ranger he can not get the truck to except to the code.

lol this is just a mess.
