Air Intake Tube Question

I wanna see pics if the lifter is really in the cylinder. A valve in the cylinder is possible, but I'm not sure how a lifter could make it there.

Changing to a solid tube would provide a slight amount of performance improvement but not much. It will be more cosmetic than anything. Make sure you leave something there with some flex. The engine moves some when reving the engine and during acceleration and deceleration. So a provision needs to be made for that.

PVC or some kind of plastic will minimize the heating of the intake air better than a metal tube will. Either way, engine bay heat will eventually soak in.

You're right. The valve fell down in the Cylinder. Lifter is still in it's original spot. Spring is in two pieces. On a plus, I did get a Lifter/Spring tool yesterday.

The OEM Ford tube seems to be essentially the same size as the K&N tube. I'm thinking that the differences are slight, even possibly cosmetic. After all, an engine only needs so much air. Attached is a photo of the K&N tube. I wasn't altogether sure. That's why I asked, but perhaps this upgrade may be more about the filter than the tube that it comes with.

I’m curious about the air box you make for the filler.

Do you have a hole or something going into the fender or is it just a box?

Yes. There is a hole in the radiator wall for the old stock intake system. I made a short plastic chute which draws air from that hole and feeds it into the bottom of the home made cold air box. It's a little hard to see in the photo, but if you look into the empty box you can see how they connect. I used aluminum foil repair tape to join them. The whole box is cut along the top in order to fit the slope of the hood. It seals fairly tight when said hood is closed. If this is still unclear, let me know. I will remove the filter and try it again.

Also attached is another photo of a shroud that K&N provides for the 3.0 liter engine. Although far from perfect, mine may allow for more cool air. A cold air box doesn't seem to be all that important in Minnesota winters, but it may help with performance or mileage in July or August. I wouldn't know for sure. I just made it this winter.

Exactly. The 3.0 doesn't flow enough air or make enough power that it will make much difference.
