recently replaced transmission, brand new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing and slave cylinder. seems like the system has air in it. the clutch engages real low to the floor and the pedal feels weak. how do i go about "gravity bleeding" the clutch system? I watched the "how to bleed your ranger" video, and I dont quite feel like removing the entire system to bench bleed it if i can fix it otherwise.

on a related side note, my truck also has issues starting. sometimes it wont start at all. i noticed before if i hold the key in the start position (if you were cranking it over), and SLAM the clutch pedal down, 8 out of 10 times it would start. could this be the safety feature activated because of the clutch not performing properly?

thanks for the help

Well looks like you really need to pull the Clutch Master Cylinder out and Bench Bled it just just like the video shows or you fight it and fight it. Before you do just gravity bleed the Slave cylinder. As far as starting the start switch in connected to the rod on the clutch pedal that is causing your problem. Another thing that i found could be causing the switch not to engage is the pivot bushing on the Clutch and Brake pedal could be worn. Here's a link to my pedal bushing elongated http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/909044-1996-clutch-brake-pedal-bracket.html

very insightful and interesting stuff..once i get my valve cover gaskets done, that will be my next project! thanks for the thoughts guys. Im just gonna bench bleed it an be done with it

for bleeding the clutch the best way iv found is to go to wall mart (id check other places first tho) and get a master mixer its just a big syringe then take your fluid resivor off and plug the syringe in the hose then open your bleeder valve and let it gravity bleed thru the syringe for a bit then fill the syringe and blast about 3/4 of the syringe thru and have someone close the bleeder when the bleeders close pull up on the syringe and youll see bubbles come up then just pump the syringe a few times and clutch should be stiff
