Air bag light flashing '97 Ranger

Hi,

We have a ford ranger '97 step side short bed 4 cylinder 2.3L.
Just this evening the air bag light started flashing. No accdent, just out of the blue it started flashing.

What does this mean? Is the air bag now non functional? Or is it about to go off LOL?

You are seeing what is called a "Lamp Fault Code". It is flashing out a diagnostic code for you. Count the flashes and come back with a number.

Also, the air bag system is now disabled. Your airbag is NOT about to go off in your face unless you have a major short that would likely be producing other symptoms.

Hi there,

OK sorry about this long delay - the light flashes on and off four times then the light goes off and does a long pause and repeats the on off flashing sequence. It does this on-off flashing sequence three or four times, then after the sequence is done, the light stays on.

The only time that does it on my ranger is when I forget about a short on my car dolly lights & plug it into my trucks 4 way pigtail wiring. Blows a fuse for the taillights & dash lights

Count the flashes... it should flash 2 times then pause and flash some more. Count the second set of flashes and post them. I just had the same issue on my 98' ranger I had code 27 which ment a burned out pass. Air bag on/off switch light. I sodderd on a new light and fix it.

Does your horn work? If not, you have a bad clock spring.
