Aftermarket Power Windows

I am adding an aftermarket power window kit to my 2000 Ford Ranger and every thing was going great until I had to wire in a power source. First I wired it into the radio and that didn’t go over well, so I started to think where I could splice it in to. So I was looking around in the owner’s manual and I noticed that there is a fuse for power windows in my fuse box. So I took out the fuse box to see where the wire goes and I can’t see it with out cutting out a bunch of stuff. So I looked at the wire and it is a red wire with a light blue stripe. Then I looked on this site to see where that wire goes and it said that it was the starter motor. So to check this I took the fuse out of the box and started the car and it started and every thing was working properly, but before I splice in to it I really want to know what the wire goes to. I know that newer cars are all ready wired for all the options but the wires that are in my door panel are different then the one that goes to the fuse. Can any one help me out with my problem?

It's a pretty popular urban legend that, "...newer cars are all ready wired for all the options...", but it just isn't true.

If you can access the load side of the power window fuse in your fuse box and you really want to use this for the power feed on your new set-up, install a tap splice on the wire and run a new wire to the master switch of your kit. If you can't access the load side or you don't care about using this fuse, locate a switched hot wire on the load side of your under-hood fuse box and tap into that using an inline fuse sized for the application. You could also tap directly to the positive battery terminal, but then the widows would still work with the ignition off.
 
The power window fuse that I am talking about is in the fuse box that is under the hood. I am just afraid to tap in to it because I don’t know what it really goes to. Another thing that I heard was that I should tap in to the ignition but there is no clear positive and negative wires that go to the fuse they are all multi colored.
 
Look at the fuse box under the dash//steering wheel. You should have an empty fuse holder marked power window. Ford don't use a fuse for the power window but a circuit breaker of 30 amps. You could buy one from any auto parts store.
You will also find that there is only terminal, only the "hot" one when the ing switch is on. Simply run the hot wire from your power window harness to the fuse block, use a corresponding terminal and plug it to the circuit breaker.
